Publisher's summary

Rest when you’re dead?

It’s time for the annual Halloween festival in Sinful, and Fortune, Ida Belle, and Gertie can’t wait to suit up and enjoy the food and activities. But when a dead man gallops through the park on a black stallion and slides to a decapitated stop right in front of Swamp Team 3, they know another festival is about to be turned on its head...so to speak.

Gil Forrest never won any popularity contests, and his dramatic and somewhat horrifying ride isn’t going to improve his statistics. But since his body was supposed to be tucked away in a funeral home, no one could explain how it ended up on a horse in the middle of the festival. Everything about the setup is strange, and Fortune, Ida Belle, and Gertie suspect there is more to the Headless Horseman ride than just a tasteless prank. And they plan to find out what it is.

Always a pleasure!

So many books to choose from! It seems like there’s been a dry spell for a few weeks now but today I purchased six new releases- WOW!! Anyway, I’ve just finished listening to a few heavy books and when I saw this new book in the Fortune Redding series I decided I had to begin my listening marathon with this one. I really needed something light and fun and this book did not disappoint me. For anyone who has never listened to anything in this series I would suggest listening at least to Louisiana Long Shot first for background on all of the main characters. After that each book is a standalone. I prefer listening in order for continuity.
This is a really fun book. It takes place during the Halloween celebration where murder and mayhem are a real treat!
Cassandra Campbell does an outstanding job narrating.
This book has my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION.

amazing as always

first, they're better NEVER be another narrator, because she always does so good with the voices.
And, second I would like multiple book releases at once because I need more and I've already listened to the series like 3 times.that is all.

Marvelous entertaining mystery series!

Frightfully Fortune is the 20th novel in the wonderful Miss Fortune series by Lana DeLeon with outstanding narration by Cassandra Campbell. Fortune, Ida Belle, and Gertie are off on another adventure that involves a headless horseman. As always there is a lot of fun as the ladies solve the mystery and the murders. I love this book and this series and recommend it.

I Just love This Series.

First of all I own all 20 kindle books and of course all the Audible. Cassandra did another great job on narration.
The story has all the characters you love but just mention of The Mafioso father and son Big & Little. Manney has become thier go too contact for the family.
Yes buy it, well worth your money. Waiting impatiently for book 21.

Disappointing

I am always thrilled to see there's a new Miss Fortune mystery, but this one was disappointing. It was poorly written, so much so that I agree with an Amazon reviewer that we would not be surprised to find the author had a ghost writer. Conversation was stilted, and the author explained too much. Sometimes it seems she pieced together scenes and conversations from previous books. It did get better with time, but not a lot. The killer and the reason for the murder came from out of nowhere. Surprise is good, but somehow I felt cheated. Cassandra Campbell didn't seem to have her heart in it, and her voices were all over the place. I almost traded "Frighteningly Fortune" in a couple times, but I had to see it through. I hope this was a fluke. We all have those moments from time to time. In the meantime I'll continue re-listening to the old ones.

Cold Beer and Friends

This is book 20 in the series and as usual with a series that is really good I am a bit depressed that I am at the end of the line .. until the next book comes out. It even came as something of a relief that Fortune's life was threatened only once this time. I spent five years in Baton Rouge and only passed through the small towns so I can't comment on the over abundance of guns .. growing up in Arkansas we had the required 12-ga shotgun and 22 rifle ..no handguns at all so I guess rather lackluster compared to the residents of Sinful. I do have a beef though .. at the end of the book everyone is at Fortune's drinking beer from cans. Come on. Given a choice .. BOTTLED BEER is the way to go. :)

Another mediocre addition😒....

I honestly cant wrap my mind around how this series is so popular. I did enjoy the first few books alot but after 5 or so books with minimal progression and a copy and paste structure/formula it started turning me off to the series. During a recent sale these were practically free so i snatched them up because some do end up being more good then bad but this one was almost a carbon copy of the last halloween book. The thing is she didnt even draw parallels between the two cases to try and figure out a motive even though they were so similar (at least the spectacle aspect of it). Then we go through the whole typical fortune and the terrible twosome goin around with casseroles and doin the "southern lady" thing. I kina enjoy the repartee and conversations but the series is just so stagnant i wonder what type of reviewers can give these books 5 stars with a clear conscience. They must not read/listen to many books.... At the end theres the most blatant GLARINGLY obvious thing that happens and everyone just goes along like normal because the author HAD to do her usual thing where they "think" they got the culprit but then fortune sees something completely mundane and makes several leaps in logic to get to a eureka moment and figures out what happened. Even though she had been stumped the entire book thinking it couldve been anyone but she sees some glitter on a kids picture and knows every single aspect of the crime and how it went down and explains it to everyone at the end like shes Hercule Poirot or somethin.... After the characters were purposefully over looking the obvious reasoning behind the break in at the end i had to skip to the chapter where she just figured it out cus i couldnt deal🙄

Another great addition

Jana DeLeon has done it again, adding a winner to the Fortune series. Cassandra Campbell once again, gave an excellent performance as she brought it all together and to life.

Love!

This is by far my favorite series! It is silly and over the top sometimes - but so much fun. This book, book 20, was really good. One of the better ones out of the last several. Not quite as over the top, and a pretty good little plot twist I didn't really see until the end.
Cassandra Campbell doe the PERFECT job with her narration - she really brings the characters to life. She makes the book!
