Publisher's summary

Asya

I can't go back to my family. I'm not worthy of them, could never be one of them again.

The sister they know, love, and remember doesn't exist. Not anymore. Until him...

The one who took me in, healed me from my demons, my fears, my scars, piecing me back, bit by bit.

Pavel

I don't get close to people, and I certainly don't need anyone. Until her...

Now, she's all I want, all I need.

The selfish bastard in me wants to steal her away, all for myself. But she no longer needs me.

I have to let her go, let her soar, not break the wings that help her fly. She's not mine to keep, to love, to have.

Can I teach my fractured soul to survive without her?

This is the sixth book in the Perfectly Imperfect mafia series. Each book in this series features a different couple and can be listened to as a standalone, but for maximum enjoyment, follow the recommended listening order.

Great Escape

These books are a great way to escape your world for just a little bit. The voices are sexy and keep you engaged. I love the actors Neva uses. I have tried to listen to similar books but don't like them because of the actors voices.

Neva only gives us five star reads!

This was the most difficult for me to read out of the series. the FMC definitely goes through it. The MC has his issues as well but together their love allows them to heal! This whole series is tied together so well! Can not get enough. Do yourself a favor a read everything she has ever written!

Pavel the caretaker!

From the start, I was sucked into the story. Asaya was raped, drugged, and forced into prostitution. She got herself out of it by running. Pavel found her and took care of her. Asaya felt safe with him and they bonded as she began to come alive again — making decisions, going outside, and seeing men in suits.

The romance is gorgeous, the pacing is perfect, the character growth is perfect, and there is just enough spice and enough mafia stuff to make the storyline engaging from beginning to end. I freaking loved it!

My favorite series of all time!

I love Neva Altaj, and she never disappoints. This was the first mafia romance series I ever read, and it’s still my favorite. Reading any of the Perfectly Imperfect books is amazing. But listening to Gregory Salinas and Allyson Voller narrate elevates it to sublime! They drew me in and captivated me. It was an immersive experience that made it difficult to do anything else while listening.

The main characters are lovable and real. Their personal growth and slow burn romance is organic, believable, heart warming, tender, and captivating. Their chemistry is delicious! The plot premise is a unique twist to this genre, which made it refreshing and interesting from start to finish. There was enough mafia action to satisfy me. I liked how the mafia plot and the romance plot were seamlessly woven together.

This is NOT a dark romance. The author calls her books “mafia light,” which is an accurate label IMO. This book does address a serious and socially relevant issue that gets swept under the rug too often. I applaud Neva Altaj for showing it as a very real problem in this country that must be addressed rather than ignored. That being said, I was not at all triggered by the brief sex trafficking scenes in the beginning, which is unusual for me. Because normally it’s a highly sensitive trigger. There is some kind of magic in this author’s writing that made it okay for me to read, and now hear, in this particular book. It’s believable, but not graphic or gratuitous. She includes only enough description to serve the plot—to show how it impacts the characters and later influences their healing journey. And A LOT of healing occurs! It was a touching, absorbing, highly enjoyable book.

SORRY, BUT I CAN’T SAY I LIKED IT

I’ve loved the previous books in this Mafia/Bratva series but sadly this one just didn’t sit right with me. A sheltered 18 yo virgin, brutally raped, abducted, taken to a seedy brothel and locked up to be used and abused night after night for two months. I didn’t blame her shattered mind taking her off somewhere happier.. I wanted to join her!! One night.. one more abuser bought and paid for her and the hotel room he was currently dying in.. one chance. She grabs it and runs.. and she runs right into the path of Pavel the 33 yo Bratva Russian loner who takes her home and ever soooo slowly and tenderly restores her self-worth, her confidence and her sexual desires. But the vulnerable teen/thirties fifteen years age gap, the frail child like heroine and the mentally damaged clinging on like a child and need to be carried did not feel at all romantic or sexy to me. I did feel strong chemistry between them but sadly it was more of an unhealthy co-dependency. Nevertheless, I did keep trying to flip my thoughts around to look deeper for the romance side.. but unfortunately I just didn’t see or feel it. It’s very much a relationship driven story with a heroine gaining character growth.. and some much needed revenge which was served quickly. The narration was good.

Worth a credit? Even though I did try and listen (fairly uncomfortably) til the end, for me, sadly it’s still a no.
