With no other choice, they must push on toward their new destination for Emma’s sake. But Ben sees Colorado and home slip further from their grasp, along with his expectations of humanity. Even the youngest of the group can no longer be sheltered from the problems this post-apocalyptic world presents or the tough choices that come along with surviving in it.

Too Much Filler

All of the books in this series have had sections where it feels like there's paragraph after paragraph of needless rambling about whatever Ben is thinking. Usually, the endless rambling consists of Ben's justifications of the plans he's considering for their next move, which is good to have, to an extent. But this author just goes way too far with it, to the point that it feels like intentional fluff. Like, in a "I need to get this essay to 3,000 words and I'm too lazy to add more actual content so I'll just add a bunch of fluff" sense. This book, in particular, is full of this pointless fluff, and I ended up having to skip ahead in a few places in order to finish it. It's obvious that the author needed more content in order to stretch out this one leg of their journey, which should have just been a couple of chapters in a longer book, into a book in and of itself.

Oh, and they still haven't figured out that leashes exist so of course their dogs are still running off and getting them into bad situations.

Update: okay, I did not see the ending coming. Nice. That makes up for a lot of my earlier aggravation.

I just can't quit this series.

I love this series. Great narration . Was the RV disabled? I think they should have told the family going to Oklahoma to go back and get it.

This is half a book

Why I paid a credit for half a book I’ll never know. It ends when something actually happens. If you are interested in how this plays out, I’d advise waiting for a collection to be made so you don’t waste your time and money.
