Publisher's Summary

Opening with the exotic Lady Death entering the gumshoe-writer's seedy office in pursuit of a writer named Celine, this novel demonstrates Bukowski's own brand of humour and realism, opening up a landscape of seamy Los Angeles.

    "Bukowskis worst.......still pretty good"

This book was entertaining in its own right, however I would not recommended for new bukowski readers. Read Ham on Rye.

    Story
"The sick imaginations of a horny drunkard"

The conclusion was underwhelming. The story was engaging and tolerable, and the performance was good too. I can't deny though that I snickered a few times at the prejudious descriptions of some dumbwhitted characters.

    Story
    "All style and no story!"

This is all style and no story, but I think that is totally the intention. Charles Bukowski states in the very beginning that the book is dedicated to bad writing and that's what he delivers in celebration of the pulp genre.

Christian Baskous delivers the characters in the voice of Bukowski masterfully.
