Publisher's summary

The quick-witted, good-natured detective Mma "Precious" Ramotswe shines in this irresistible best seller. It continues the charming series that began with The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency, hailed as one of the "International Books of the Year and the Millennium" by the Times Literary Supplement

Between intriguing new cases and troubling personal developments, Precious' hands are full. The four Miss Beauty and Integrity pageant finalists may have questionable moral fiber, and the brother of an important government worker has allegedly been poisoned. On top of all that, Precious' reliable fianci might be hiding something.

Life is more difficult than ever at the No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency, but it's nothing a little clear thinking and a few mugs of bush tea can't candle.

A perrenial favorite!

A compassionate portrait of two women’s extraordinary experiences of the universality of human frailty and nobility.

Wonderful light listening for YA too.

This is the duplicate review of a previous book in the series because my sentiments are the same. It’s a bit like reviewing an episode of the American TV series “Murder She Wrote“ starring Angela Lansbury.
If you like one episode you will like all the episodes.
So my review is more for the series in the odd chance that someone is purchasing them out of sequence or checking reviews out of sequence.

I generally listen to heavier stuff but needed something lighter while I work on something involving a legal issue, compiling paperwork etc.
my sister recommended Alexander McCall Smith, (specifically this series) and she was so right.
The characters are endearing, the storyline is interesting but not heavy and it’s up to pleasant diversion if you want something lighter.

This should be classified as YA. It’s easy to understand, contains no offensive language or behavior, in fact - offers plenty of good philosophical points for kids to ponder pertaining to morality and defining good values.

The only con for me was the price. With my annual subscription the cost of credits is about $10 so I kept thinking “do I use a credit for books that cost $12 instead of a classic worth $25-$40? (especially one I know I will only listen once). I finally came to my senses and realized Alexander McCall Smith‘s books are a wonderful diversion while I’m going through a stressful time so what’s worth more than that?

I recommend these books for adults but REALLY recommend them for teenagers and even mature preteens. The stories are pleasant the values are good and the fact that it takes place in Botswana is a wonderful cultural learning experience for all of us in the Western world.

I am so enthralled with this series!

What does Lisette Lecat bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I love the accent and cadence Lisette Lecat brings to the story. I think it would be a completely different experience if I were reading it in print, as I would not have a clue how to correctly pronounce some of the names and places in this book. This is my third book from this series. I think if I ever do read a print version, I will probably always have Lisette Lecat's characterization in my head. Just perfect.

Any additional comments?

This series is just a breath of fresh air for me. It is pleasant and positive break from the stresses of real life. It makes a long commute in heavy traffic a much more pleasant experience. I find myself a little bit sad every time I finish one of these books.

Lovely story, better on 1.25 speed

While listening to this book I realized that the awkward pauses car was caused by the reader or the producer were distracting and the speaking tempo was rather slow.

So I found that listening to this lovely tale and 1.25 speed it really helped with my listening, attention, and appreciation of the story.

On to the next...
