Publisher's Summary

Did not like it! Good book not a good audible.

I was so looking forward to listen to this book. Lucia Mendez is not good at narrating this story and the music does not help her. She over does it with the dramatic tone of voice. Could not hear more than 30mins. I just couldn't take it. I'll try to buy the printed book and read it even if it takes me weeks.

Nice book

The book is nice, but the background music drove me crazy. Especially since I was listening to this in part to practice my Spanish comprehension, the music made it hard to listen.

Absurda y ridícula novela.

Would you try another book from Laura Esquivel and/or Lucia Mendez?

No.

What could Laura Esquivel have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointment.

Any additional comments?

A marvelous delight

Mas, mas, mas. This book is one of the few delights available in Spanish through Audiobooks. It is read with all the beauty that is available from Spanish culture -- and that's a lot. This is a wonderful interpretation of the role of women in culture, in Mexican history, and in the universe! I only wish there were already a full library of these delicious delights.
What a marvelous reading of a significant and powerful novel!

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Did Lucia Mendez do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Malinche?

Malinche as a Legend

If you could sum up Malinche in three words, what would they be?

Legendary, dramatic, and compelling

Who was your favorite character and why?

The Grandmother and her influence on the young Malinche

What about Lucia Mendez’s performance did you like?

Lucia Mendez speaks quite distinctly so it is easy to understand her against the background music.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The opening descriptions with Malinche and the grandmother

Any additional comments?

I hesitated to purchase the audio version because of other reviewers' criticisms about the background music, but I found the music to be an interesting feature of the audio version. Esquivel appears to like to try new technologies and forms for the presentation of her novels. The drama in this one ties the music into the legendary nature of the story of Malinalli.

Laura Esquivel, another great book!!!

What did you love best about Malinche?

I loved the way Laura Esquivel uses Malinche as the mother of The "mestizo"race with all the exotic beauty and mysticism .

Malinche, sensual, brave, and mistic.

What does Lucia Mendez bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The diferent entonation, accents.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Little resentment agaist Spaniers for the lack of understanding of the new world. What a pitty to destry an entire civilization, without validating their knowledge.<br/>
