An Interesting Western

I received a free copy of this audiobook at my own request, and voluntarily leave this review.
Great short story, Plenty of good frontier style action. Narration was OK.
I hope there is a follow up to this tale.
A good read if you like westerns.

The only real law is the one made by my gun!

OK, lets get the rough stuff out of the way. The only issue I really had with this book was the narration, and I am not saying it is bad. Stone does a decent job with voices and is clear and easy to hear, but he barrels through the narration so quickly that I actually thought that I had upped the speed on my narration. He really sounds like he is trying to get everything read in under two hours, which he manages to do with minutes to spare. This really colored my whole experience, as I prefer to listen to my stories at real speed. I'm hard of hearing, and the fast talk makes it almost impossible for me to understand everything, so I found myself returning back to a previous time so I could decipher what was said. Had he spoke at a natural pace then I think I'd give stars of 5 all across the board, but I was so flustered, and having to relisten to everything made me not get into the story as much as I would have liked. Again, this is a problem that I had, my son said that he could understand everything he said, but that he was indeed speaking quickly.

That being said, this plays out just like you would expect, someone gets hurt, and vengeance must be had. People are going to pay, and blood is going to be spilled. Haden has a nice writing style that reminds me of Charles Portis. He has some compelling characters, and the action is slick, and th revenge is sweet. Still, not every thing is as you might expect it, and he has some obstacles for the protagonist to overcome. This would make a great movie or netflix original show.

Had I not had the issues that I did with the narration I think I would have had more to say. The story is good, and the narration does work, it is just faster than I preferred. Even though I did receive a promo code for this review it in no way influenced my considerations of the material, and honestly, inspired me to be more honest. In fact, getting a code generally makes me harsher as a reviewer as I am more often concerned what someone like Me will decide based on my review.

Quick western vengeance tail

I like to listen to westerns and hear about the old west: the outlaws, the rugged country, Indians, strong men and tough women. Vengeance is always a good listen! This was a short book, nothing spectacular, but it was worth listening to. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.
