"A key to the audiobook’s success for fans is its all-star cast — a strong advantage here for audio over print. When a “Next Generation” cast member speaks in 'Fan Fiction,' from Patrick Stewart to Marina Sirtis, it’s that actor’s actual voice you’re hearing." -- The Providence Journal

"Incredible production values (one of the best soundscapes I’ve ever heard, honestly) and some interesting insights from Spiner..."- Locus

This program is read by the author with LeVar Burton, Michael Dorn, Jonathan Frakes, Genie Francis, Gates McFadden, Marina Sirtis, Patrick Stewart, and a full cast.

Brent Spiner’s explosive and hilarious novel is a personal look at the slightly askew relationship between a celebrity and his fans. If the Coen Brothers were to make a Star Trek movie, involving the complexity of fan obsession and sci-fi, this noir comedy might just be the one.

Set in 1991, just as Star Trek: The Next Generation has rocketed the cast to global fame, the young and impressionable actor Brent Spiner receives a mysterious package and a series of disturbing letters, that take him on a terrifying and bizarre journey that enlists Paramount Security, the LAPD, and even the FBI in putting a stop to the danger that has his life and career hanging in the balance.

Featuring a cast of characters from Patrick Stewart to LeVar Burton to Trek creator Gene Roddenberry, to some completely imagined, this is the fictional autobiography that takes listeners into the life of Brent Spiner, and tells an amazing tale about the trappings of celebrity and the fear he has carried with him his entire life.

Fan Fiction is a zany love letter to a world in which we all participate, the phenomenon of “Fandom.”

I was moderately entertained by this novel-posing-as-a-memoir by Brent Spiner, AKA Data. Spiner gives us a tiny peek behind-the-scenes as he spins out this noir tale of himself being stalked by a crazed fan. It was fun to listen to the audio book, which features all the major ST:TNG cast members, including Sir Patrick Stewart, performing short bits as themselves (not their characters) as they try to help Spiner deal with his stalker. I needed something very light at the time I picked this up, and it fit the bill. It took my mind off of my daily grind and it was fun listening to Spiner's narration. Only recommended for hardcore ST:TNG fans.

The cleverness of the concept and the fun of inhabiting the quasi-real quasi-fictional world are grand. The ambiguity about what is real and what is not both frustrates you and keeps you listening. The story won’t knock your socks off, but overall it is worth your time. It’s fun and occasionally funny. Bravo Brent-o!

Clever and fun

Love the story and the look behind the show, even if some things are fictional for the sake of the story. Thank you for writing and making this audio book.

Absolutely loved this book! I love Brent Spiner and Star Trek, so it was a no-brainer for me. I really enjoyed the story and that was the feeling of getting an inside glimpse of Brent's life and the behind the scenes of it all. I really feel like Brent appreciates his fans, and this was a nice gift!
