Publisher's summary

From New York Times best-selling author Monica Murphy comes an angsty new adult romance about the popular quarterback and the smart girl who brings him to his knees.

Jake Callahan. Prince of the popular crowd.

My mortal enemy.

Gorgeous. All the girls want him.

Quarterback. All the boys want to be his friend. He’s the most popular boy in the senior class.

And he hates me.

Or so I thought.

What I mistook for hatred turns out to be…interest. There’s that thin line, right? It makes me crazy. I can’t stand it. Attraction, chemistry, whatever it is, I also can’t resist it.

And neither can he.

Together, we make no sense. The odds are against us. His friends definitely don’t approve. I’m not a part of their crowd. Not one of the cool kids. I don’t fit in, or so they say.

But that doesn’t stop him from falling for me.

And it won’t stop me from fighting for him.

Monica Murphy!!

This story was by Monica Murphy NOT Karen D! Good story without the overly explicit sex scenes! The female narrator, with the little girl voice, took away some enjoyment as the male characters sounded like pre-puberty adolescents.

Loved this book so much

I thought this was more of an adult book, but when it comes down to it, it was a high school book, but the story was so incredibly sweet that I couldn’t quit listening to it. Good job, Monica Murphy.I

Female narrator is boring

Listening to this because of teddy and the story seems cute. The female narrator takes some getting used to.

Cute, basic high school situations

Simple yet pretty honest look at high school relationships and sports. The rich, the not so rich finding love

Narration made this story!

Updating with audio review:
Audio review- I just really loved this story, and the audio narration is so expressive and authentic, I think it really adds to the YA angst and first love energy of this story. Sarah McEwan is one of my favorite narrators- she brings so much emotion to her narrative approach, and it really brings the spirit of the story and these characters to life.

The story itself has a lot to adore- nerdy wallflower and arrogant jock. Monica always writes her young adult characters with a lot of authenticity- they think like kids, act like kids, are selfish and immature at times, haven’t yet developed their emotional intelligence yet, and bring ALL that teenage bravado…or insecurities. It means her characters are flawed and honest- but relatable. For that reason, Jake takes a minute to love - he’s full of himself, sometimes lack self-awareness, but he grows and evolves so much in his relationship with Hannah. And Hannah is the “every girl” we can all relate to. I loved watching them mature together, each work through their own issues and insecurities. Monica so perfectly captures the first love magic.

I do wish we had a bit more ending focused on these two (the ending starts to set us up for the next book in the series- which is my all time favorite MM couple, so since I read out of order I didn’t mind), but I wanted more closure for Hannah and Jake. But all in all, really loved this one- and I liked it even better in audio. The narration really adds to the story.

Really enjoyed overall but wish there was a better ending- too many questions left unanswered.
