understand yourself

This book was exciting to start because I identified with almost every example. However, this book is more suited to someone who suffered emotional abuse from parents in all different forms. I did not suffer any type of emotional distress in my childhood but still suffer from anxiety and shame. This book gives good exercises for managing and conquering that inner critic.

Healing Your Emotional Self is an excellent book to read, regardless of what kind of family-of-origin experiences you had. Those who come from dysfunctional family backgrounds come to understand that they are not alone, and their feelings are validated. Those who come from families that were mentally healthy, on the other hand, are reminded to appreciate the good luck they did have.

This book can encourage not just those who experienced emotional abuse but everyone who have low self esteem to have happy life and and reach optimal emotional health. This book teaches you how to heal the damage caused by emotional abuse and how to develop self-esteem which comes from truly knowing who are and recognizing your talent and abilities.

Good read

More importantly, it gives very specific, practical actions you can take to manage the abuse, become more confident in the relationship, and make decisions about what to do. After what I've been through, this book was truly a breath of fresh air and sanity.
