The apocalypse will be televised!

A man. His ex-girlfriend's cat. A sadistic game show unlike anything in the universe: a dungeon crawl where survival depends on killing your prey in the most entertaining way possible.

In a flash, every human-erected construction on Earth - from Buckingham Palace to the tiniest of sheds - collapses in a heap, sinking into the ground.

The buildings and all the people inside have all been atomized and transformed into the dungeon: an 18-level labyrinth filled with traps, monsters, and loot. A dungeon so enormous, it circles the entire globe.

Only a few dare venture inside. But once you're in, you can't get out. And what's worse, each level has a time limit. You have but days to find a staircase to the next level down, or it's game over. In this game, it's not about your strength or your dexterity. It's about your followers, your views. Your clout. It's about building an audience and killing those goblins with style.

You can't just survive here. You gotta survive big.

You gotta fight with vigor, with excitement. You gotta make them stand up and cheer. And if you do have that "it" factor, you may just find yourself with a following. That's the only way to truly survive in this game - with the help of the loot boxes dropped upon you by the generous benefactors watching from across the galaxy.

They call it Dungeon Crawler World. But for Carl, it's anything but a game.

LitRPG means Literary Role Playing Game. Simply put, it’s the book version of watching someone play a video game, usually one that’s set up like an MMO (massively multiplayer online) RPG. It’s a blend of sci-fi and fantasy, depending on how it comes to be that our main character ends up living inside a virtual reality. the point of LitRPG is not how we get there, but that we get to be in this virtual reality period, living life as a badass video-game character. Beat the grind and submerse yourself in these addictive LitRPGs.

This is easily one of the FUNNIEST BOOKS I HAVE EVER READ. The formula of relatable MC and halarious animal sidekick once again proves to be a winning one, and despite what could be an incredibly bleak story of the end of life as we know it, we get a wonderful performance that had me laughing from the first chapter to the end.

The funniest performance and writing ever

While a book about a living video game has the potential to be repetitive (you've all spent hours leveling up, you know what I mean), the author does a good job of glossing over said repetitive parts, and does a great job creating engaging and entertaining characters, such that he (mostly) avoids this pitfall. I'm sure the book is great when actually read, but for a truly wonderful experience, it needs to be listened to. Most narrators try to do voices, if only to differentiate the characters for the readers, but this narrator, with a few helpful voice effects, blows everyone else out of the water. I think I would have enjoyed the book if I had read it on paper or kindle, but after the audio performance, I just want to finish this review so I can go get the next one.

Outstandingly Fun Listen

The story is hilarious, intense and awesome. The two main characters aren't overpowered and are in fact quite resourceful and relatable. The performance by the narrator is beyond amazing. I love the sound effects, and I love that he goes beyond Narration into, what I consider, full blown voice acting.

Please support this series so we can get the next few books into an Audible format.

I've purchased and listened to pretty much every LitRPG series available on Audible. I had resigned myself to the fact that there were no more decent new series being generated and I would have to wait until the series I do like released new books.

Then I found this series. It is very enjoyable and I went through the first three books in a matter of days and am eagerly awaiting the fourth book, which I saw is out in print.

It has all the hallmarks of a great LitRPG series; defined system, a 'relatively' plausible reason for being in such a world, loot, really fun and smart main character, side kicks, humor, epic battles, strategy, variable races and classes, etc. You get the point.

Great series that is set up to be quite long considering there are like 18 levels and after three books they have only transitioned a handful. One of the few books / series were the overall rating is actually accurate. Tired of seeing overall ratings of 4.5 and having the book suck and almost all of the reviews negative. At the time of this writing, the overall rating is 4.9, and that is accurate.

Have fun and kill kill kill...
