Kylie and Corde

This is book two in the Crimson Dragons series. Corde is the dragon who is awakened. I am glad each dragon finds his mate. I enjoyed this book more than book 1.

Beth Roeg did a great job with the narration. I received this free copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Sexy dragon shifter

Corde is a dragon shifter who, along with several other dragons, has recently been awakened from a centuries long sleep to help the government fight mysterious interdimensional “Others”. He is behind the times and a bit at sea in this new world. In his attempt to fight an “Other”, he ends up appearing to threaten the public and lands in jail with resulting community service. His community service leader, Kylie Johnson, turns out to be his fated mate. For a dragon shifter there is only one mate and finding her is particularly important as mated dragons are more powerful and better able to fight the deadly “Others”. Corde’s problem, however, is that Kylie does not date criminals. Can he stay out of trouble and win her love?

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and it was a well written, easy listen. I look forward to other books in the series and there is the potential for a number of books as each dragon is awakened. The plot of the book is heavy on the interactions between Corde and Kylie and the backstory with the “Others” is almost an afterthought. The fight to save humanity is more of a plot device to get the main characters together than an integral, well developed part of the storyline itself. This is does not detract from the romance between Corde and Kylie. I loved Corde, he was kind, sexy and devoted to Kylie. He tried so hard to please her and clearly had his own past issues with failure. Kylie was sweet and, having been burned once before, was appropriately hesitant to get involved with one of her charges, but did not hold onto the past so much that it became a frustrating impediment to their relationship. There was also enough “dragon activity” throughout the book to really see Corde as a dragon shifter. Often in these types of books, the h is identified as a dragon but really never acts like one.

Dragon Seduction is the second in a, currently, three book series of the Crimson Dragons. While it can be read as a stand-alone book, I found there was a lot of backstory information missing, or only briefly alluded to, that was necessary to frame the story. There were some references to events in the previous book, but I still felt like I really did not have a strong grasp of the world-arc. It would be best to read these in order. In general, the larger world building of this story could be stronger and would make this a very compelling series.

Beth Roeg did a decent job with the narration. Her male voices were a bit weird and not the greatest, but I got used to them and once I did it did not detract from the listening experience.

Overall, I really enjoyed this romance and recommend it to those who like the dragon shifter genre.
