Publisher's summary

There are two types of people: those who have been hacked and know it, and those who have been hacked and don't know it.

Former Naval Intelligence Officer turned secret operative Jake Pendleton finds himself in a pulse-pounding race to stop a cyber-terrorist from releasing a string of the most heinous cyber-crimes the world has ever seen. Crimes that could render the world's advanced technology useless.

Jake teams with his partner, Francesca Catanzaro, to track down their only lead, a white-hat hacker in Italy known only as The Jew. A man who might hold the key to stop a group of black-hat hackers from causing worldwide chaos - tag named Disruption.

After a search of the hacker's flat in Rome turns up empty, Jake and Francesca follow the clues - a trail of dead bodies that leads them across Europe. Along the way, Jake discovers a possible link between recent hacks and a Malaysian airliner that mysteriously disappeared.

In the final adrenaline-charged moments before Disruption, Jake and Francesca find themselves in a high-voltage race to stop these cyber terrorists from unleashing destruction against their sworn mortal enemy.

So Glad Jake Pendleton is back!!!!

I really enjoyed the first three books in this series (Savanna Project, The Toy Maker & Breach of Power). It's been a few years and I was beginning to wonder if there was even going to be a book #4. YEAH!
This is such a good book. Jake Pendleton is a combination of a few characters out there today. Ex navy, ex CIA now working for a private contractor who contracts for the CIA.
He's tall, fit and can shoot and fight along with his female partner who may be more dangerous than he is.
This book deals with computer hackers, both good and bad and it appears that the bad guys are winning. That is until our heroes arrive on the scene.
These books don't have to be read in order but I think you get more out of them if you do.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Cyber attacks used as WMD's

In this remarkable novel author Chuck Barrett makes a compelling case that cyber attacks have the potential to be used to cause disruption and death on a scale that makes them weapons of mass destruction. Disruption is a political/espionage thriller in Chuck Barrett's Jake Pendleton series. The series started with The Savannah Project when ex-navy SEAL Pendleton was an inspector for the National Transportation safety Board. By the current novel, #4 in the series, he has joined and and left the CIA and moved on to a private CIA contractor. He is partnered with an Italian lady named Francesca. This novel has lots of action and suspense. Scott Brick, the best at his craft, narrates. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

Everything I Love In One Place

This book has everything I love starting with cyberwar/terrorism. The plot revolves around a potential cyber attack on the world. You can tell that Barrett did his research here since the entire plot seemed incredibly plausible. I work for a technology firm and all of the details and nuances that he included were just perfect for the type of story and attack he was talking about.

The narration for Disruption was done by Scott Brick who is a veteran in the audiobook narration field. Brick does an amazing job with this book — helping to move it’s already fast pace even faster. Brick takes a great book and makes it greater.

It also had a lot of international travel and intrigue. The main characters Jake Pendleton and Francesca Catanzaro travels to different places trying to piece together the different clues and data they were able to parse with help from their team. The different places that played a part in Disruption really made the book interesting and fun to read.

The story itself was very good. There is honestly something for anyone in this book. Cyber Attacks, Love, Intrigue, International Travel, and some sinister plot-lines that I won’t ruin in this review.

Overall, Disruption was awesome. It was a blast to read from beginning to end and I had fun reading it. It’s one of those books where it could go one way or the other. I hoped that I was going to like it, and I was right. I’m really glad that I picked this up — and now, I’ll be looking for more books like this from Chuck Barrett.

I received this book for free -- this has not affected my opinions or review.

Better and Better!

I'm growing more and more attached to Jake Pendleton! Disruption is a very fast paced, twisting story that made me want to finish listening in one day. Almost did it too. Definitely credit worthy. Hacking is a main theme in the story, which makes for an all too believable plot. With Scott Brick as narrator, you can't go wrong. If you enjoy a solid suspense thriller, get this one.

iRead Book Tours provided a copy of this book as part of Chuck Barrett's virtual tour, but I bought the audio version. I've enjoyed the series since first reading Toymaker.

Well constructed

It was plotted well, but had a lot of filler, tons of exposition that sometimes sounded like Wikipedia or Google Maps, and sort of a big "nevermind' ending that explained everything away. So that wasn't great.

Skipping

Great book, great storyline once again Scott brick gives the outstanding performance reading this book. The only negative I have is numerous times throughout the book it’s skipped, jump forward a little. Didn’t ruin the story just annoying.

Worth the time

This was my first Barrett book and it won’t be my last. The story had intrigue, held your interest from the beginning to end, and Scott Brick was the usual masterful story teller.

Scott Brick makes this great!!

I really like the narrator, I like the intonation of his voice, his style of reading, and how there’s an urgency to his voice which compels you to listen to the story.
In this case the story was pretty good, usual espionage stuff, tho some of the torture scenes could have been abbreviated for my taste. The story holds together, loose ends tied up, and the world is saved by the determination of a dead man! Bravo!
