Publisher's Summary

From the Wall Street Journal best-selling author of 44 Chapters About 4 Men (inspiration for the Netflix Original series Sex/Life) comes a dark Mafia romance steeped in Irish folklore.

I can’t remember anymore if my grandfather’s eyes were blue or green, but I’ll never forget the way they wrinkled at the corners when he laughed at one of his own jokes. Or the way they sparkled with mischief when he told me tales about the magical creatures that dwelled in the forest behind his humble Irish sheep farm—shy fairies who liked to eat tea biscuits, cruel witches who liked to eat children, a moody lake spirit with a taste for expensive gifts.

As a child, I believed every fantastical word. But when he warned me about the mute boy who also lurked in those woods, the one the priest had declared to be the spawn of Satan himself, I refused to listen. Kellen wasn’t evil. He was kind, and beautiful, and special, and hurting. He was my friend. And with every summer I spent stolen away with him in those enchanted woods, he grew to become so much more.

But when I return to Glenshire as an adult, grieving and engaged to someone else, all those legends quickly morph into nightmares.

My grandfather had been right about everything, especially the boy.

If only I had listened.

If that sounds like you, then welcome to Glenshire!

The Narrator….holy….

I loved this book. It was crazy, intense, mythical, dark, and devastating. The narrators both did amazing jobs bringing the characters to life. And holy shit, the male narrator…. I wouldn’t hate for him to read me bedtime stories for the rest of my life.

The male narrator is 🔥🔥

This is apparently his first audiobook, but something tells me he’s going to become a superstar in the audiobook world right quick. His performance alone is worth the credit, but I have to warn you, the female narrator and the story itself are not.

I’ve never listened to an audiobook where the narrators were so mismatched. His voice was like silk and he acted out his chapters, while she just read the story and her voice is shrill, nasally and obnoxious. It was painful to switch from his chapters to hers so I eventually just downloaded the book and read Darby’s chapters. Why she was selected to narrate this, I’ll never know. Anyone with ears can immediately tell that she was not the right choice.

As for the story, the first 50% is easily a 5 star book. The second half is riddled with implausible scenarios that defy logic, reality, and science, and is so drawn out for no other reason than the author wanting to write a mafia romance but having no idea how to do so. It’s such a shame because if she had just kept going in the direction the first half was headed, this book would have been a masterpiece.

Heart-pounding and Steamy Romance!

What a thrilling, emotional, and seductive love story! I was completely captivated by this magical story and couldn't stop listening to the wonderful narration by Elizabeth Klett, and Eric Nolan. Their accents were incredible! But their characters were so much more than their accents. They made each character recognizable with every nuance of inflection and cadence. They are a perfect team, allowing me to be totally immersed in this world.
Darby first meets Kellan when she visits her mother's childhood home in Ireland when she is a child. Darby is fascinated with the magical fairytales her grandfather weaves and brings that enthusiasm with her to play with Kellan. Kellan is living a nightmare and loves this little girl who brings light into his world. They trust each other and through the years form an unbreakable bond. Kellan waits all year for Darby to come from America, until she doesn't. Darby and Kellan are heartbroken without the other half of their soul. When they finally find their way back to each other, they must fight the devil to never lose each other again! This is a heartbreakingly beautiful romance between two damaged but not broken soul mates. I loved both Darby and Kellan. They seemed opposites at first glance but were so much more complex. They were both fighters, dealing with their heartbreaking past from opposite directions. They tempered each other and made each other stronger. I loved how this story unfolded with each heartbreak, each sweet moment and each plot twist. It was the perfect blend of suspense, mystery, laughter, and romance.

I really enjoyed this book. Finished it in one day. I just wish they would have stayed with the man’s performance instead of the woman’s. His just keep me more engaged then the lady’s did. She was a bit high pitched which is a little striking.

WOW just WOW

After scrolling for another book to listen to and feeling somewhat defeated, this book came up as recommended. Sometimes trying a new author can be frustrating and now I’m so happy I took the chance.
This was not only a story about how two severely damaged people had each other since childhood but also how they healed the broken spirits of one another through that childhood love. I was captivated.
I’ll tell you the cover of this book caught my eye but that decadence of Eric Nolan’s voice kept me enthralled. The man could read a textbook to me and I’d swoon! Wow just wow! Unfortunately, I haven’t found anymore books he’s narrated and if I could follow his career I’d do it in a red hot Irish minute!

Must read!

I loved the development of the characters. However, this does have some very emotional passages that may contain triggers. BB killed it with this one. The performance by Eric Nolan and Elizabeth Klett was top notch.

Had such potential, then mid way falls off.

The foundation was amazing at first. Then I feel the characters never develop. The female lead put the nail in the coffin for me. Her immaturity and air headedness made it unbearable. I tried to push throw but had to throw in the towel.

Devil of Dublin

**Warning this book has many triggers so if that’s a problem you should pass!
As for the book🎧it was surprisingly different & difficult to listen to especially if you’re Catholic my second warning!! I still liked it(not loved)and can totally relate to the story on a different level, I’ve seen first hand what happens behind closed(Catholic)doors. The narration was on point especially loved Eric Nolan’s voice he reminded me so much of my best friend who was from County Cork, Ireland. The story was depressingly sad(it did have some happy moments sprinkled in)and heavy not sure that’s what I wanted to listen too but I did and glad it ended on a HEA. Is it worth the credit? Yes, only if you can handle a multitude of triggers!

I so badly wanted to like this

The preview of the audio only had the male voice and I would have listened to anything this man narrated!! The female voice was not a good match. She seemed inexperienced in narration, or maybe an American accent is secondary cause her Irish accent was way better when used. I found myself wanting to skip her chapters all together as they were painful to listen to.
Overall it’s a good story, and I’ll definitely be looking up more from the male narrator, but I can’t do any additional with the female voice. Especially not pay for it!

All the Stars!

I was very lucky to be given an Aural Fixation Giveaway promo code for this amazing book and this is my voluntary review.

Trigger Warning: Childhood abuse and Sexual Assault, but this is an amazing survivor story of healing from previous traumas.

This is a standalone, second chance romance, Irish Mafia. Deals with dark themes but the chemistry and connection is built up and unfolds like a misty irish morning, leaving the only clear path being for the reader to root for Darby to heed the warnings that the lough spirits are angry with her for coming back to Glenshire with another mans ring on her finger, when her soul was promised to Kellan.

As a native Belfast Girl, I loved hearing such a familiar accent in the narration, Eric Nolan's voice has that lyrical sing-song that wins over many a girl when they think of an Irish accent. Elizabeth Klett was a fantastic accompaniment in the POV of myths and legend loving Darby when she meets Kellan. It was brilliant, filled with a lot of tragedy, heartache and Irish folklore mixed with all the Peaky Blinders and James Bond kinda action to keep the connection between Kellan and Darby on its toes.

Loved loved loved this.

Excellent listen

Loved this story, of an Irish boy & an American girl who meet in Ireland. It’s a story of innocence lost and a connection so profound, they will walk through fire together, for each other. Loved the narration—both narrators are new to me. I generally only listen to a couple of hours at a time but this was so well done, I binged it over two days.

A Wild & Amazing Ride! Brilliant Story & Listen🎧

BB Easton continues to wow me with another amazing novel, the story drew me right in, grabbed my attention and captivated it the entire time. It is such an original story, it starts off like a fairy tale and then wham, real life kicks in, and Darby is no longer that innocent girl who we meet as a young girl on her first visit to Ireland and whose fate was magically sealed. Darby met a boy in the woods that day, Kellen, and they formed a special bond that day. Darby only saw the good in people, and when she saw Kellen, that was what she saw. She did not know how troubled he was or that he had a terrible home life. They saw each other several times over the years after that, and Kellen always looked forward to seeing her. She was the only one who did not judge him or look at him like he was evil. She had not visited Ireland for a few years because of money issues and then her Mom’s illness and the next time she does it was for her grandfather’s funeral and her fiancé accompanied her. Even though she heard of Kellen’s demise she still went looking for him, and what she found instead surprised her, she mistakenly went to the wrong cottage and the person who greeted her reminded her of who intended husband was, deemed by Saoirse, herself. Her life is thrown into a tailspin after that meeting, she saw what happened to Kellen’s cottage, she even thought she saw him and when she went home, her fiancé was not happy with her and was his usual abusive self until an angel comes to save her, or was it the devil. Kellen did not intend to be seen, but he could not sit back and watch what was about to happen to Darby. He does what he does best, rids the problem and then he takes Darcy with him. She does not know what he does and when she comes up with some guesses, he does not deny them since they were all good things, if only. I love how everything played out in this book, it is a brilliantly plotted story with plenty of drama, angst, heartfelt emotions, twists and turns, thrilling suspense and a romance that was always meant to be. The world building is phenomenal, as is the character growth and development. BB Easton, thank you for this brilliant story and the wild and amazing emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧 📚🎧 And for the wonderful narration, BB Easton could not have had a better cast to bring her characters and story to life. Elizabeth Klett and Eric Nolan are superbly talented narrators and versatile voice artists. They had a complete understanding of the characters they portrayed, gave each a voice that suited their character’s persona, accents included, and were believable in every role they played. Klett’s Darby was perfection all thru the years, Nolan’s did the same for Kellen, grasping all sides of his personality. Both were great voicing the all the secondary characters as well. You could hear how much heart they put into their work as they captured all the characters’ emotions and projected them into their performance. These entertaining storytellers are versatile voice artists and a pleasure to listen to, and their narration enhanced an already amazing story to another level. Thank you for this exceptional listen.

Amazing

Wow. This book has everything. It’s got a strong emotional connection to the characters that will have you stunned. It’s a beautiful traumatic book with good day, bad days and great days. I absolutely loved it. A great performance from both narrators.
