Publisher's Summary

It's been over two years since the zombie apocalypse changed the world. Zach Gunderson is still reeling after the brutal massacre of most of his loved ones and the abduction of his two children. There is only one person in his life now: Kelly, the sole survivor of the massacre. The two of them have carved out an existence for themselves, but in spite of Kelly's steadfast devotion, Zach finds himself questioning the purpose of trying to survive in a postapocalyptic world.

well writen

I've listened to all of the books in this series and I'm looking forward to the next one. the narration is very good. the characters are interesting and are believable, at least as believable as anything can be in a story about a Zombie apocalypse , and I'm interested in what happens to them next.

Let Down Compared to Previous Books

I am a huge fan of this series, but this book fell flat in a lot of ways for me. It was very slow and never really had any of the high points the other books brought. The ending was especially anticlimactic. I'm anxious to see if/where the story goes from here. However this segment felt much more like a filler than a book to stand on its own. On the plus side, great narration as usual.

Probably my favorite series in the genre!

Great continuation of the story. After the last book I was on tenterhooks the first hour with regards to the characters (if you've read it, you'll understand why - no spoilers), it is amazing how quickly and seamlessly the author weaves old and new characters into his story. The plots never disappoint and I'm ALWAYS left wanting more at the end.
This genre is never really about the actual "zombies/plague" etc, it's about how the characters evolve and what life is like in the midst of such things. David Achord brings these aspects together so well.

How does one move on?

After the devastation of the third instalment how will Zak move on? He vows to find his kids but has no idea where to look. He and Kelly begin to rebuild. Unable to trust anyone Zak gets a surprise visit and also realizes the murderous military will be back. Loved this book.

Continuity problem

Good story but in chapter 22 Jose is eaten by a python but in chapter 29 Kelly says that he likes playing with Macie and suggests that maybe they will get married when they grow up.
