'Ross Greenwood doesn’t write clichés. What he has written here is a fast-paced, action-filled puzzle with believable characters that's spiced with a lot of humour' Kath Middleton

A family’s secrets lie buried. The time has come to uncover the truth…

When a mud-splattered man staggers from Bacton Wood with a terrifying tale about being buried alive, DS Ashley Knight and her team are called in to investigate. Soon, another victim is found, and more men are missing – all with connections to the well-known Vialli family.

The Major Investigation Team find themselves attempting to untangle a case that stretches from Eastern Europe through to North Norfolk. Along with rookie detective, the whip-smart Hector Fade, Ashley is in a race against time trying to help a family who seem determined to take matters into their own hands. And when Ashley suspects there is a department rat, the stakes get even higher.

As the evidence continues to point in different directions, and as new victims are uncovered thick and fast, Ashley and Hector begin to fear they have finally met their match in a killer too ruthless and clever to be caught.

Bestselling Ross Greenwood is back with a breath-taking page-turning thriller, perfect for fans of Mark Billingham, Ian Rankin and Peter James.

'Move over Rebus and Morse; a new entry has joined the list of great crime investigators in the form of Detective Inspector John Barton. A rich cast of characters and an explosive plot kept me turning the pages until the final dramatic twist' Richard Burke

This author understands how to create many returning players with interesting back stories. A reader looks forward to developments in the private lives of the police investigators as much as the thrill of solving a complex murder.

A solid series with clever mysteries that don’t overshadow the main characters

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. I like how the characters are coming along. Have to admit I didn’t see Emile coming but should have from the hints in the flashbacks.

Looking forward to the next

Ashley, Hector & the entire team never fail to draw me in immediately. The characters are very relatable, and the drama is always intense. I was addicted after chapter one. A great storyline for a fantastic series. Highly Recommend!!

I'd give it 10 stars if I could...Ross Greenwood is one of my favorite writers. He has an uncanny ability to mix humor and drama, misery and laughter and despair and renewal. I love the narrator as well. Hector Fade is my favorite character, but all the characters are believable and interesting. Highly, highly recommend.
