'A twisty, tartan-clad cracker laced with dark humour.' Bestselling crime author Ross Greenwood

Some bodies just won't stay buried...

After putting a stop to one of Edinburgh’s most notorious serial killers 3 years ago, DCI Liam Brodie is known as a man who can handle - and solve - the hardest of cases. But when he’s assigned to Fife’s Major Investigations Team, he soon realises that he’s walking into a minefield. The previous DCI is missing, presumed dead, and the case he’s been called in to lead becomes dangerously close to home.

When a child’s bones are unearthed beneath the floorboards of an old house in Fife - the same house where his girlfriend, psychologist Ruth Campbell, grew up as a foster daughter - Brodie uncovers a tangled web of lies and jealousy. Ruth’s foster mother, now gripped by dementia, holds fragments of the truth but in a community haunted by its history, Brodie must navigate betrayal and buried guilt to bring a decades-old secret to light.

But at what cost to those he loves most?

Don't miss this explosive start to a brand new series from Scottish crime writer John Carson!

I liked the twists and the way the story lines converged. I will definitely listen to another in this series when it's available. I love narration by Angus King, contrary to other listener's comment. I've listened to many many other books he's narrated (entire JD Kirk series) and enjoy his work. Hey listen to the preview. You will know if you have trouble understanding a Scottish accent.

Interesting twists and turns.

There were too many characters to keep track of, particularly for an audiobook, and I disliked that there are three separate mysteries. It seemed at first as if the mysteries would somehow converge but they did not, and subsequently I felt as if nothing was given the depth it deserved.

Great narration, okay story

It may be unfair to give this book such a low rating based on the fact I just could not understand anything that was said due to the narrator's extremely strong Scottish accent. The story is set in Scotland and all the characters are Scottish (or at least I THINK so), so it stands to reason the narrator speaks with a Scottish accent...but come on, he was impossible to understand at least 80% of the time. So how could I tell if the story was good? I couldn't, and after listening, rewinding and rewinding over and over again I finally gave up. I have read many, many books set in Scotland and have not had such a terrible time understanding the narration. I would think that if you want your book to have wider appeal you would consider the dialect of the narration.
