Publisher's Summary

The society wedding of the decade has everything: the blushing bride, beautiful flowers...and the groom arrested before he can walk down the aisle? Thank goodness Lady Swift is on the guest list!

Lady Eleanor Swift isn’t normally one for grand social occasions, but who can resist a wedding? Especially when it’s her old friend Constance Grainger marrying the most eligible bachelor in town, Lord Peregrine Davencourt. Eleanor is taking Gladstone the bulldog as her plus one, with a smart new bowtie to match her bridesmaid’s dress.

But the big day is ruined when the groom is arrested for murder before he makes it to the altar. In a baffling twist, it turns out he was already engaged to the lovely Daisy Balforth, who has been found dead at the local inn with Lord Davencourt kneeling over her. The gossip pages will have a field day!

The distraught bride-to-be asks Eleanor to clear her fiancé’s name, as she’s certain he wouldn’t hurt a fly. With help from handsome Detective Seldon, Eleanor examines the evidence. But she’s barely had time to write down her suspect list before Constance’s father is set upon by a bearded stranger on the golf course. Clearly there is more to this story than Eleanor first thought, but can she catch the real killer before the wedding turns into her wake?

A delightfully gripping historical cozy whodunnit full of intrigue and wit. Fans of T E Kinsey, Agatha Christie, and Lee Strauss will be totally charmed.

I love Hugh

Honestly the Hugh storyline is one of the best parts about this series. I really didn’t like the last book, purely because he wasn’t in it. I still sometimes struggle with this series as I think it’s very ‘basic’ … But, it’s good fun.

Loved this book

I liked everything about this book. I have read all of her (or their) books and like them all but this is my favorite so far. The narrator is wonderful also. It’s so interesting when she gives various facts about the particular events during that time period at the end of the book. It’s a feel good book and in this day and time a feel good book is wonderful!

I love the Verity Bright books... But!

Right, I am going to start with I think Karen Cass's performance as the narrator is absolutely wonderful. She is the perfect voice for the series. The husband and wife team behind Verity Bright are great at writing, however, I'm not going to lie I am starting to get bored of the will they won't they of the relationship between Elena and Hugh. Just get on with it it's been 11 sodding books now, it's getting tiresome. They should be together living in the hall and having fun. Hugh takes some time off work and is staying in the hall and getting to know the staff and bond with Clifford while spending quality time with Elena. I've said this in a previous review I think it would be nice if we saw someone else have the adventure of investigating; the two young maids Polly and the Scottish one who's name escapes me, they witness something and investigate while Elena and Hugh chill out at the house and relax only to find out what is happening after the whole thing is resolved and are like wait, what happened? The story was good and I enjoyed it but I just feel a lot of these cozy mystery's fall into a template of events and the same formula can get very dull. How about we see Elena is framed for murder and Hugh and Clifford work together to solve the mystery with the help of the staff and we find out that the Scottish maid is a skilled pickpocket from growing up in Scotland and we find out more about the staff as their pasts come back to find them. Polly goes undercover and we discover she has an amazing singing voice? Come on mix it up a bit. I love these characters I'm invested but I would like to see more!

Death Down the Aisle

This is a fantastic murder mystery where Lady Eleanor Swift tried to find who and why people are dyeing. With the police thinking they have their man, and unable to continue investigation, Hugh asks Eleanor to carry on for him. When she comes across another attempted murder of one of her suspects, and keeps him alive. With great team work from the villagers they help find a missing boy. Brilliantly read again by Karen Cass, being life to all the characters.
