Publisher's summary

Necromancer is such an ugly word, but it's a title Eric Carter is stuck with.

He sees ghosts, talks to the dead. He's turned it into a lucrative career, putting troublesome spirits to rest, sometimes taking on even more dangerous things. For a fee, of course.

When he left LA 15 years ago, he thought he'd never go back. Too many bad memories. Too many people trying to kill him.

But now his sister's been brutally murdered and Carter wants to find out why.

Was it the gangster looking to settle a score? The ghost of a mage he killed the night he left town? Maybe it's the patron saint of violent death herself, Santa Muerte, who's taken an unusually keen interest in him.

Carter's going to find out who did it, and he's going to make them pay.

As long as they don't kill him first.

Performed by Michael John Casey, Eva Wilhelm, Jacob Yeh, Tia Shearer, Terence Aselford, Jefferson A Russell, Gabriela Fernandez-Coffey, James Lewis, Michael Glenn, James Konicek, Rose Elizabeth Supan, Nick DePinto, Rebecca Sheir, Jonathon Church, Thomas Keegan, Bradley Smith, Matthew Bassett, Ken Jackson, Dawn Ursula.

One of my top 15 series

the narration here from graphic audio is far better than the newer version. the new narrator i just can't get into. Eric Carter is a great anti hero story. up there with sandman slim.

Refreshing Change

I have been binging the Dresden files books lately and felt the need for a palate cleanser. This did the trick. It was really nice to find an urban fantasy that didn't focus on werewolves or vampires and I loved that the main character was a necromancer. It was easy to listen to, very entertaining and per usual the casting by Graphic Audio was wonderful. I will definitely listen to the second installment of the series.

Surprisingly tasty

My usual fare of space operas and post-apocalyptic thrillers had become rather dull, but I've been pleasantly surprised by Eric Carter's romps in the not-so-usual urban fantasyland. It's nicely paced. Narration is well casted. All-in-all an engrossing experience I finished in just one sitting. Onward to the next installment!

This IS a dramatization

This audiobook is a dramatization of the events from the book. It is recommended to listen to this with stereo as the sfx can muddle the voices due to a poor mixing. As for the book, it is a dessert read/listen. Its short, sweet, detective drama with a splash of magic. There a few vices, with the fictional cast. One female character's sole purpose seems to yell at everything the main lead does, regardless of how much sense she makes. Those types of one sided characters irks me.

Diet Dresden

Music?: felt a bit random at times, and tended to drown out the character speaking.

Narration?: Pretty solid. a few situations that felt like they didn't convey the dialogue the same way the story attempted to.

Story?: DEFINITELY feeling the Dresden files vibe from this story, though very...rushed, I suppose is the correct word for it. Didn't really feel like there was time to connect with the characters. Also, and it's a personal gripe, but it felt a lot like the characters did things because they had to for...reasons?, rather than due to their beliefs.

Overall?: a decent, bite sized, "fast food" story. Good for what it is, but don't go looking for anything fancy.

love it

Absolutely love it, just wish it were longer. Most Definitely prefer a full cast to a single narrator.

Main narrator is NOT an actor

I wanted to like this graphic audible because, so far, I have not been let down by a full cast performance, until now. I honestly tried to listen to the whole thing but the guy who reads the main character is so flat. The rest of the cast did great. I don't understand how the main narrator even got this gig, his performance is so bad. I want my credit back!

I hate this Graphic Audio version

I really can’t say if the story is good or not because this Graphic Audio that Audible is doing is awful. You have music playing in the background while the narrator is reading the story. You have bottle opening sounds and the drink being poured sounds very loud you can’t get into the story because of all of these sounds that disrupt the story. You have grunts and all kinds of sounds that don’t let you enjoy the story. I’m returning this book. If it came in the regular Audible format with 1 narrator and none of this graphic audio soundtrack I would buy but no this version is terrible.
