Twenty years ago, a toxic spill in the small southwest Texas town of Exile poisoned residents with permanent rage. The feds' response? Quarantine. Only residents who pass the feds' 4-S test can escape Exile's heavily fortified borders. Heidi Palermo, unwilling medic to her family of bloodthirsty street warriors, has taken the test repeatedly, trying to prove she's smart, strong, sterile, and sane. Three out of four ain't bad, but the feds don't grade on a curve.

When her abusive brother dies in battle, Heidi turns her clinical eye to his killer. An Outsider who arrived post-spill, Tank seems open to Heidi's advances. Is Tank her ticket out of Exile? Before she can find out, the two are besieged by her vengeful family. Heidi must keep their blood feud from triggering a war with the feds if she wants to escape Exile. But Tank's about as trusting as Heidi is monogamous—which is to say, not at all. So Heidi's picked the wrong mark, her family is gunning for her, and the feds are itching to nuke Exile once and for all. Heidi's got her fourth S now: Screwed.

Performed by Tia Shearer Basset, Gabriel Michael, Dylan Lynch, Anthony Palmini, Holly Adams, Adrian Garcia, Danny Gavigan, Rayner Gabriel, James Lewis, Terence Aselford, Bradley Foster Smith, Matthew Pauli, Terence Aselford, Ren Kasey, Julienne Irons, Michael John Casey, Colleen Delany, Yasmin Tuazon, Nora Achrati, Scott McCormick.

This was an interesting story. It had a MadMax-esque to it.. the Voice Actors were amazing! Having a Full Cast really brought the story to life, and I hope Tank and Heidi can find that respite they are longing for!

Great Acting 🎭

I found Exile incredibly engaging from start to finish, and it’s now saved to my list of favorites. The author creates a world full of dysfunctional characters, and somehow it all works beautifully. There are wild moments, heartbreaking ones, and even some unexpectedly funny scenes.

What really stood out to me is how real the characters feel. They’re not stereotypes—they’re flawed, emotional, and deeply human. The author doesn’t shy away from the darker parts of their lives, and that honesty makes the story even more powerful.

It was a great listening experience, and I’m looking forward to checking out more audiobooks from this author.

Dark but Deeply Human Listening Experience

This IS an odd one. Almost like a fever dream. Almost trashy. But let yourself roll with it and you’ll find that her writing unfurls itself in a surprising and beautiful way.

Her writing is a truly unique display of a mastering over the English language.

Written word- Our reality is over saturated with the use of it right? So much so that I have to ask- can we be faulted for our forgetting of the fact that written word can also be used as a tool for the birth and creation of the truest form of original human art?

Written word when weaponized by a person born into this world with a rare talent combined with the drive and the grit required to master it - can be used to create something entirely new.

This story is unique in its combination of intellectual creativity wrapped around a snapshot of what makes up the base, animalistic core of the human species.

I jumped into this book looking to be entertained by something violent and shallow in the way a blockbuster movie can be when you need a break from your daily existential crisis. It took about an hour for my brain to catch on to what I was listening to. A unique piece of literal art.

If you need me to compare it to something familiar- I’d probably say - that it is a little bit like… if the Hunter S. Thompson book “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas” and the movie “Bad Batch -by Ana Lily Amirpour” got together and had a baby…it would be this audiobook.

Violently poetic

This was a very interesting story! Definitely lots of plot twists and turns. Very well written characters. Overall, I enjoyed it! The Graphic Audio version is excellent!

2nd reading review: I really actually enjoyed reading / listening to this book. I listened to the graphic audio version while reading on my Kindle and I very much liked everything about the story and book. I feel the characters were very interesting and the storyline was very well written and a good baseline that hooked the reader and kept you wanting to know what was going to happen next. I may have said this already but I really loved the characters and their various quirks. I absolutely love Tank! I feel that all of the voice actors that were in the graphic audio did phenomenal job. Overall, I'm really glad that I read and listened to this book!
