Publisher's summary
The Witcher meets the The Dresden Files in this Weird Western tale by the Audible number one best-selling duo, performed by Roger Clark (Red Dead Redemption 2’s Arthur Morgan).
James Crowley met his mortal end in a hail of gunfire. Now, he finds himself in purgatory, serving the White Throne to avoid falling to hell. Not quite undead, though not alive either, the best he can hope for is to work off his servitude and fade away.
His not-so-sacred duty as a Hand of God? Use his new abilities to hunt down demonic beings that have infiltrated the mortal realm.
This time, the White Throne has sent him to the middle of nowhere: a Western town called Dead Acre with a saloon, a moldy church, and little else worth talking about. There isn’t even a sheriff. But the local cobbler has gone missing at the same time as a number of graves were desecrated.
Crowley must follow the clues, all while dealing with a cutthroat gang that treats Dead Acre like they own it, an extraordinary woman who makes it hard to focus, and locals not keen on strangers.
Life isn’t simple for a Hand of God.

When a magical plague is released in a Depression-era New York soup kitchen, private detective Alex Lockerby finds himself in a desperate hunt to catch a madman before he can strike again. His investigations lead Alex to a famous thief, a daring heist, and the search for a mythic book of ancient magic, but none of that brings him any closer to finding the man responsible for the massacre. With the police and New York’s Council of Sorcerers desperate to find the culprit, Alex becomes a suspect himself, thanks to his ties to the priest who ran the soup kitchen.

Incredible Must Read
This story is an incredible blend of western and fantasy. It’s short and sweet but takes you on an incredible journey. If you ask me, this story ought to be followed up on and turned into a series. Fantastically written, interesting setting, and expertly composed by the authors. Excellently executed narration that perfectly fits the story. This is an amazing experience you won’t regret listening to.

I loved this Wild, Wild Fantasy!
Take an episode of Wild Wild West (tv show) where a man with a quick draw and a six shooter is sometimes the only law people respect! Then add a Righteous Paladin ridin' into the town of Dead Acre, to smite the Damned, and well... you've got the picture!
The book is a fun, quick read/listen, and I found that Roger Clark was simply the perfect narrator to portray our protagonist!

a great take on the supernatural western. reminded me of Wynonna Earp while still be completely original. The length of this book, combined with the story telling and narration makes it a great bedtime story. I've listened dozens of times to help me fall asleep. can't wait for next book in the series.

Excellent wild west fantasy!
Dead Acre
By: Rhett C. Bruno, Jaime Castle
Narrated by: Roger Clark
This was a freebie from the author's newsletter! Both the book and the Audible book was free!(Audible was free with my Audible plus)
I really loved this wild west fantasy with an undead main character that died doing right, although he was an outlaw. Now working for the White Throne (Heaven), he goes to handle supernatural crimes where his handler tells him to.
He ends up in a town called Dead Acres, lots of action happens here! Love the main character and the whole premise of the book! I hope this is just the prequel of many more books to come!
The narrator in the Audible version was great!

Great short story that hits the ground running, let’s you know everything you need to about the world without long explanations so you can stay immersed in the nonstop plot, and the best choice for a narrator you could get for a Wild West story like this.

Grab a whiskey and enjoy a camp fire tale
I've found myself wanting more stories like this. It's short, to the point, and told a way that makes me feel like I'm sitting across from an old gunslinger, cradling a whiskey paid for with a wild tale from a past he's not quite sure is his own anymore. The story itself isn't really anything special. It's simple in a way that most good stories are, memorable, easy listening and entertaining. The narration, in my opinion, is perfect for this story. I always liked Arthur Morgan in Red Dead Redemption 2, so hearing Roger Clark pretty much reprise his role as a jaded gunslinger was pretty awesome. Probably won't (and to be fair, probably shouldn't) win any prizes but I enjoyed this story far too much to start nit picking.

Nice 👍
This was a nice listen with an interesting world being setup and characters that I liked - albeit the premise might be an overused one, I found that it worked and left me excited for more. I find James Crowley to be up there with the likes of Harry Dresden and Skulduggery Pleasant.

Gripping
This was an amazing little find that I stumbled across. The story was interesting, but Roger Clark brought it all to life. I notice a couple of little voice slip ups if you will, but nothing that hurt my enjoyment of the performance or hindered my understanding of the story. I highly recommend this book, and I look forward to listening to the rest of the series.

An exciting story with a great narrator
If weird west is what you are looking for, you probably think, just like me, that there is not enough of it.
Dead Acre is worth checking out for fans of fantasy and monster hunting, maybe for fans of wild west and absolutely for those of something in between. The narration was a huge cherry on top. A wonderful sample of what to expect going forward in the series.

Interesting take on a western
Not a genre I would normally do, not sure how it got into my library but it was a good story, pretty well done in character to my mind. Would listen to some more

Sorry it had to end
I haven't enjoyed an Audible book so much for ages Wish it had been longer, as I didn't want it to end.

Super fun!!
I really enjoyed this! If you’re a fan of fantasy, then I don’t think you can go wrong. The events unfolded quickly feeling rushed, and while it’s like a few concepts from existing books & TVs merged together, it feels original. Kinda like Jack Reacher & Supernatural put together inside the Wild Wild West. Have fun!

Great Start to a series
This prequel is a great start to a series. The MMC is really likeable & has an interesting back story. Though I listened to this through my audible plus membership, I've added the book to my buying wish list. Glad I finally read/listened to a book by Rhett Bruno. The narrator did a great job too, keeping the story interesting.

A fantastic supernatural western story!
Narrated by the guy who voiced Arthur Morgan in Read Dead Redemption 2, this witcher-esque story set in the wild west was really good! I can't wait to listen to book two.

Story
A deal goes bad...and Van Delano is left to die in the desert. But most folk say he’s been cursed with a double-barreled shotgun of mulishness. So, when his first attempt at bargaining for his kidnapped sister’s freedom lands him with a dead horse, a bullet in his leg, and miles of desert between him and the nearest town, he’s not about to give up. He’ll fight and claw, cheat and steal, even kill, if he has to.
