Alexander Dumsky, or Alex Doom, was a dark wizard. At the age of 17, he was convicted of a litany of crimes so long that even the seasoned investigators, judges, and prosecutors involved in the case could only shudder.

Not a single attorney could be found to defend him in court.

But four years later, Alex was released from prison to become the professor of dark magic. They'd thrown him into the deepest hole they could find, one built for the sole purpose of holding wizards, and then they let him back out again...

Why him? Why then?

Oh, you're not surprised to hear talk of wizardry? Well, then you probably know that the Magic Lens, which was invented in 2032, let humans see and use magic again.

Or do you know?

First let me just say that the narrator did an incredible job in my opinion. I absolutely loved this book. The main character was extremely fun and interesting and the humor in this book was enough to actaully audibly laugh. The only issue I have is that the author hasn't released the 2nd book and I don't think we'll be getting a sequel any time soon if ever since this isn't his main series. Either way I highly recommend this book if you like magic, mystery and main characters who don't take shit lying down!

My favorite book so far

this is a dark story about a guy trying to get justice in any way possible , the mc is pretty dickish but as the story unfolds you really connect with him and can understand him better

loved it

A pretty good book and start to the series.
there is a few editing problems, couple skips in the audio.
other then that a good book, the magic is fun and the main character, though he isn't always like able it is on purpose.
I have Hope's for the series but we will see, the last two russian others styles I've read ended up disappointing me. still this one seems very good.

a good book

I was really impressed with how well the author executed the backstory in this novel. To be honest, I was about to drop this novel after listening for a couple hours because you aren't immediately familiar with the MC and his thinking. I was initially left with an impression of a wanna-be badass clone of the sandman slim series. He seemed really one dimensional in his attitude towards others simply because the author wanted to pigeonhole him as a "black mage". However, throughout the rest of the story, the author slowly introduces us to the MC's backstory through flashbacks and my first impression couldn't have been more wrong. This book has a lot more depth then I initially believed. The action in the book is a little on the lighter side of this genre, which wasn't horrible, but I would love to see more fights in the future. The world building is my only real criticism. I actually loved the setting described in the first chapter but the author doesn't build on it much as the story progresses. I really wish he would flesh out the environment more. To clarify using gamer lingo, after listening to the intro chapter I was really hoping for a open-world adventure and instead it came out extremely linear. point A to point B, back to point A and then to Point C. All in all it was a fantastic story and I had no issues with the narrator.

Very Well Executed
