Very, very little actionable material. Only purpose of the book appears to be to drive traffic to their website. Not very educational to the uninitiated.

Felipe Engineer-Manriquez's audiobook "Construction Scrum" offers construction professionals a practical, field-tested approach to improving project delivery. This guide effectively translates Scrum methodology into the construction context, providing valuable tools that can be implemented immediately on job sites.

The book begins with a solid foundation in Scrum fundamentals, explaining the To Do-Doing-Done workflow in language that resonates with construction professionals. The author clarifies essential definitions from The Scrum Guide while demonstrating how the PDCA cycle (Plan, Do, Check, and Adjust) applies directly to construction processes. His explanation of the myth of multitasking is particularly relevant for construction environments where teams often juggle multiple priorities, showing how focused work actually accelerates project completion. The philosophy of incremental development—breaking large projects into manageable sprints—provides a refreshing alternative to traditional construction scheduling approaches.

A valuable aspects of this audiobook is a formula for understanding and optimizing team capacity. He presents a clear method for computing capacity by analyzing three types of tasks: value-added, necessary non-value-added, and unnecessary non-value-added. This framework gives construction managers a systematic way to identify waste and focus resources where they matter most, ultimately increasing overall capacity without adding staff or extending hours.

The practical guidance for creating Your First Sprint board stands out as immediately applicable advice. Engineer-Manriquez outlines 11 essential questions that construction teams must answer when establishing their board, eliminating the uncertainty that often comes with implementing new management systems. His example of using a Scrum board to manage change orders in a healthcare construction project demonstrates the versatility of this approach in complex, high-stakes environments.

Perhaps most helpful for construction professionals is Engineer-Manriquez's integration of Scrum with familiar industry practices. He thoughtfully connects Scrum methodology with Lean Construction principles and the Last Planner System, showing how LPS can be superimposed on Scrum to enhance both approaches. This integration provides a bridge for teams already using these methodologies, allowing them to adopt Scrum practices without abandoning established systems.

After listening to this audiobook, I've gained practical insights that I plan to incorporate into my construction practice. Engineer-Manriquez's experience in construction is evident throughout, providing guidance that addresses real-world challenges faced on job sites every day. For construction professionals looking to improve project outcomes, this audiobook offers clear strategies that can help deliver projects easier, better, and faster.

This book was exactly what the title said. It walked through the process and details of implementing scrum methods in the construction world.

it was, however, more of a general overview than a deep dive into the specifics. While the author did clarify a lot of questions I had about scrum in construction, it often pointed toward further research and reading. I just wish it was more detailed.

Helpful walkthrough
