Publisher's summary

Persuasion, Jane Austen's final novel, follows the romance of Anne Elliot and naval officer Frederick Wentworth. They were happily engaged until Anne's friend, Lady Russell, persuaded her that Frederick was "unworthy". Now, eight years later, Frederick returns, a wealthy captain in the navy, while Anne's family teeters on the edge of bankruptcy. They still love each other, but their past mistakes threaten to keep them apart.

Narrator races through in a monotone

Couldn't even listen to more than 10 minutes of this because of the narration. Now I always listen to the samples. Sorry I didn't get another narrator for this story.

Oh dear

Would you be willing to try another one of Peta Johnson’s performances?

Is Peta Johnson a person? Or a Sat Nav articulater perhaps? No, I should have listened to the sample voice - this is not read, let alone with any understanding, it is spelled out by a voice linking letters together, and desperately sad for Persuasion.

Narrated by a speed reader!

Story is typical Jane Austen, but listening required a certain amount of tension to not miss anything. The narrator did not distinguish different characters very well, either.

Terrible narrator

What didn’t you like about Peta Johnson’s performance?

She is absolutely terrible! I purchased it and couldn't listen to more than a page. She gives me anxiety she reads so terribly.

Speed Reader

The reader had a good voice, but she read so fast I thought she must have been paid for words per minute. There were no pauses, no inflection, and no emotion. This is my favorite Jane Austin book, but I couldn't listen to such poor reading.

BAD editingn

Robot narrator! Absolutely no deflection if speech! Pleasant voice so I attribute to simply bad sound engineering. Audible, delete this version, PLEASE, and offer a more palliative option...for the sake of dear Jane!

Get a different narrator

This is one of my favorite Austen books but the narrator very unnaturally doesn't pause for breath between sentences. It's very distracting and annoying. Listen to this story but avoid this version.

Reader reads far too quickly

However does Miss Johnson contrive to speak so very quickly? Does she not need to breathe? Alas, listening to this narration requires such force of concentration it leaves one with a monstrous headache.
