Publisher's Summary

Gary Thomas, pastor and best-selling author of Sacred Marriage, believes that one simple word can bring hope, light, and life into any marriage: Cherish.

Most marriages survive by gritting teeth and holding on. But what if surviving marriage wasn't the goal? What if we aimed to thrive instead? In Cherish, Thomas teaches us that although there are a countless number of marriages consisting of two people just going through the motions, there are real ways this pattern can be reversed: When husbands and wives learn to cherish one another in their everyday actions and words.

The way we treat something acknowledges whether we cherish it or hold it with indifference or contempt. To truly cherish something is to go out of our way to show it off, protect it, and honor it. We want others to see and recognize and affirm the value that we see. Thomas reminds us that in a world desperate for marriage redemption, the act of cherishing is needed now more than ever.

Cherishing your spouse will elevate your marriage relationally, emotionally, spiritually, and even physically. You will set different goals for your relationship, and you'll see your marriage with fresh eyes. Through personal stories, real-world examples, and timeless biblical truths, Thomas shares the tools you need to turn your marriage around, including:

  • Using your mind to change your heart
  • Sacrificing for your spouse
  • Praying with intentionality
  • Prioritizing your life partner

Through the biblical act of cherishing, we can empower our spouses to become who they are called by God to be, and in the process to become more of who we are called to be, creating a marriage that feels more precious, more connected, and more satisfying. If you're ready to revolutionize your relationship, it's time to learn how to truly Cherish it.

Every husband needs to read this book

Gary Thomas nails it with this book. There are handful of books I need to read every year, and Cherish is definitely one of them. He gives practical tips and biblical insights into how to not just love your wife, but cherish her. Get this and listen to it immediately.

(He also does a great job narrating!)

A gift from above

My best friend passed away 13 years ago. ~Cherish~ was a word she used to use a lot. So much so we teased her about it sometimes. Fast forward to 2016, I was struggling in my marriage, I prayed and out loud, verbally asked my best friend to HELP ME!! I started browsing for books and within minutes there it was right before me *CHERISH*... wow. I was shocked. I was even MORE shocked it was about MARRIAGE. I bought it without even reading the whole summary. It was a sign from above, truly for me it was. I was a little turned off by the constant religious references ( I'm more spiritual than religious I guess) and I almost stopped within the first chapter. BUT because of how this book came to me, I had to complete it. Period. And I did. I'm so glad I did :) I also had my husband listen to it as well. It helped us tremendously and was the first book we both listened to, to aid in our marriage troubles. almost 3 years later and 12 years of marriage, we are stronger than ever. I even have the word tattooed on my arm now :) So thank you! To the author and my best friend <3

The effects of applying this book are seen.

It took me two weeks to get through this book. However having immediately applied what I was learning in this book before I was even able to finish it my wife told me that she was feeling cherished by me and that she could actually see and feel it. That is a huge testimony for her to say that to me. Sometimes the simple things we should just know we need to be taught and that which should be obvious is not always. This is now one of my highest recommended books to others I know. Thank you Gary Thomas!

Great book, but not my favorite from the author

A good book and an interesting, more uplifting perspective on marriage. Many marriage books start and focus on discussing problems, this book focused more on solutions. This book aims to improve the general health of a marriage rather than "saving it".
My favorite chapter was about how every time our spouse asks us a question or makes a statement they are placing a "bid for our attention". How we respond to those bids can either cause our spouses to feel cherished or ignored.
Overall this was a really good, more lighthearted marriage book, however, I felt some of the content got a little repetitive. Personally, I prefer Gary L. Thomas "Sacred Marriage" but this book will definitely be recommended to others as well.

This is what is missing in most marriages

This book is powerful. Cherishing is what is missing in most marriages. I have been paying for marriages in the church to thrive not just survive. This is the missing ingredient. I am praying for my heart to be changed and cherish my husband as my Adam and be honored committed and content.

Amazing book for christian couples!

This was the first audiobook I have ever listened to and also the first Gary Thomas book, i tend to prefer hard copies for reading any kind of book usually. However, i breezed through this fantastic book.
It is absolutely geared towards married christian couples and would benefit single christians as well. I will definitely read/listen to more Gary Thomas books.
