Resumen del Editor

Read by the author with an audio-exclusive interview of Shauna about her family's move to New York.

When everything we've been clinging to falls apart, how do we know what to keep and what to let go of? I Guess I Haven't Learned That Yet, now a New York Times bestseller, is a clear-eyed look at where we go from here—and how we can transform our lives along the way.

Just after her fortieth birthday, author Shauna Niequist found herself in a season of chaos, change, and loss unlike anything she'd ever faced. She discovered that many of the beliefs and practices that she usually turned to were no longer serving her.

After trying—and failing—to pull herself back up using the same old strategies and systems, she realized she required new ones: courage, curiosity, and compassion. She discovered the way through was more about questions than answers, more about forgiveness than force, more about tenderness than trying hard.

In I Guess I Haven't Learned That Yet, Niequist chronicles her journey—from her life-changing move from the Midwest to Manhattan to the power of unlearning what is no longer helpful and accepting the unknowns that come with midlife, heartbreak, and chronic pain.

With her characteristic candor and grace, Niequist writes about her experience learning how to:

  • Discover new ways of living when the old ways stop working
  • Embrace the challenges and delights of releasing our expectations for how we thought our lives would look
  • Trust God's goodness in a deeper, more profound way

Follow Niequist as she endeavors to understand grief, to reshape her faith, and to practice courage when it feels impossible.

Praise for I Guess I Haven't Learned That Yet:

"Gentle. Loving. This tender book asks us to listen to our pain, lean into our discomfort, and trust that we can be lifted back on our feet by God and each other."

--Kate C. Bowler, New York Times bestselling author of No Cure for Being Human

"This book is a masterpiece. It is a journey and an invitation and a joy and a heartbreak and all the things you need to read to be reminded that hope can still be found."

--Annie F. Downs, New York Times bestselling author of That Sounds Fun

Enchanting

I’m a fan of all Shauna Niequist’s work, each taking the listener/reader on a different melodic journey. This book is no different - weaving you into exploring parts you mostly close the door to. You will laugh and cry both reactions from a place of relating. A special bonus is listening to her cadence change to conversational; rapid and excited to share her love of being in a new place called home. Suggesting places to go and things to do and see experience. I highly recommend a good listen bathing in the sun or shade but mostly a comfortable place to relax and soak in “what you haven’t learned yet”.

Shauna never disappoints!

Shauna is one of the few authors that makes me teary with her words. She is wise, honest, funny and really pulls you in to her story. I’ll always be a fan.

Absolutely incredible and exactly what I needed to hear

I cannot even begin to describe how incredible this book is! I listened to it all in one day, and am about to start listening to it a 2nd time. Listening to it is like salve for my soul. There are so many chapters in this book that are exactly what I needed to hear right now. I think this is my favorite Shauna Niequist book (which says a lot because Cold Tangerines and Bittersweet were tied for my all time favorite books)

Liked it a lot!

I think it’s worth looking at Laura’s personal challenges w/her dad’s situation before listening to this great book. Not that it’s any of our business honestly but I think it helps you better appreciate so much of this book. The special addition on her NYC 3-day guide at the end of the Audible is PURE. GOLD.

Like therapy for the soul

As a fellow 40-something mom of boys, raised in the church, hurt at times by the church, navigating what I believe and what I’m re-thinking, lover of good food and cooking, and lover of NYC, this book was like therapy for the soul. It was affirming, challenging, and inspiring. Shauna’s storytelling is on point and unearths so much of daily life that often goes unnoticed and unappreciated. I am left excited to continue experiencing life in all the ways - the messy, the hard, the mundane and the delightful. Thank you Shauna for putting so much of my feelings about similar experiences into words. <3

Relatable and hopeful

Thank you to the author for sharing so vulnerably her journey through her doubts and fears. I really appreciated her putting out in the world a book we’re we don’t have to know everything and be perfect, but take life one day at a time.

So healing and poignant

I cried through the entire book—in a good way. I need to listen to it again because I think it will keep that healing process going.
While the author does reference her faith, it’s not preachy or judgmental - rather vulnerable and living- and will appeal to even those that are not religious.
