Resumen del Editor

They Both Die at the End meets The Loneliest Girl in the Universe in this mind-bending sci-fi mystery and tender love story about two boys aboard a spaceship sent on a rescue mission, from two-time National Book Award finalist Eliot Schrefer. Stonewall Honor Award winner!

Two boys, alone in space. Sworn enemies sent on the same rescue mission.

Ambrose wakes up on the Coordinated Endeavor with no memory of a launch. There’s more that doesn’t add up: evidence indicates strangers have been on board, the ship’s operating system is voiced by his mother, and his handsome, brooding shipmate has barricaded himself away. But nothing will stop Ambrose from making his mission succeed—not when he’s rescuing his own sister.

In order to survive the ship’s secrets, Ambrose and Kodiak will need to work together and learn to trust each other . . . especially once they discover what they are truly up against. Love might be the only way to survive.

Reinvigorated my love of reading!

I think what I liked most about this book is that I wasn’t just waiting for them to get together, I was so invested in finding out why they were in space alone together that honestly I wouldn’t have been mad if they stayed friends. I was hanging onto every word and there honestly wasn’t a dull moment and as the twist slowly unraveled I was truly shocked! With that, the progression of their relationship was fairly natural and didn’t feel out of place at all.

Furthermore the narration was superb, I was amazed at the different voices and accents the narrator was able to accomplish and so smoothly! Each character felt like distinct people with true emotions. Outstanding.

A mind blowing novel.

I have no words. What an incredible, dark and twisted story. I had so many theories and was on the edge of my seat the entire time.

Wow

I really loved this book. I’d go as far as to say, I fell in love. It’s been a while since a book made me feel such a range of emotions.

Great story. Great narration. Loved it!

I wasn’t too sure about this one when I bought it and even after the first hour of listening but by chapter 3 I was HOOKED! Wow! Was not expecting this at all. Highly recommend!

So well written!

Had to have a book club convo after reading this because I loved the themes evoked by this book and honestly can’t believe that it’s considered a YA book, tbh maybe that’s why there isn’t as much smut as I would like.

It not just subverts typical sci-fi tropes and ideas about humanity but also has an almost spiritual ideal about how relationships can transcend lifetimes. I thought the ways that the book approached the transmission of knowledge to also be really unique.

All I will say without giving too much spoiler is that after reading this book it reminded me of when Toph in ATLA says “Do you really think friendships can last more than one lifetime?” And was so poignant upon reflecting after reading.

Unexpected

Not sure why I kept listening as the story is far from a typical gay romance. But the journey was well worth the destination. An amazing futuristic story with a happy, uplifting ending. Keep at it. You’ll be glad you did.

Great narrator, sometimes slow pacing

Ambrose and Kodiak have a beautiful love story spanning so many different periods of their life, and this book was a great example of finding and clinging to love in a chaotic universe. The only trouble I had with this book was initially getting into their story because of Ambrose’s elitism and Kodiak’s sternness, but it’s those exact qualities that balance each other out so well as they fall in love again and again.
