Demigods Nico di Angelo and Will Solace must endure the terrors of Tartarus to rescue an old friend in this thrilling adventure co-written by New York Times #1 best-selling author Rick Riordan and award-winning author Mark Oshiro.

Percy Jackson fans, rejoice! Nico and Will have a book of their own!

As the son of Hades, Nico di Angelo has been through so much, from the premature deaths of his mother and sister, to being outed against his will, to losing his friend Jason during the trials of Apollo. But there is a ray of sunshine in his life—literally: his boyfriend, Will Solace, the son of Apollo. Together the two demigods can overcome any obstacle or foe. At least, that's been the case so far . . .

Now Nico is being plagued by a voice calling out to him from Tartarus, the lowest part of the Underworld. He thinks he knows who it is: a reformed Titan named Bob whom Percy and Annabeth had to leave behind when they escaped Hades's realm. Nico's dreams and Rachel Dare's latest prophecy leave little doubt in Nico's mind that Bob is in some kind of trouble. Nico has to go on this quest, whether Mr. D and Chiron like it or not. And of course Will insists on coming with. But can a being made of light survive in the darkest part of the world? And what does the prophecy mean that Nico will have to "leave something of equal value behind?"

Nico will have to face demons both internal and external as his relationship with Will is tested to the core in this standalone adventure featuring two of the most popular characters in the Percy Jackson saga. The story was just amazing. He was so good and everything was perfect. I wouldn’t have changed anything except but Jason could’ve came back.

So good

Still finishing but something seems wrong with Chapter 8. I’ve listened three times now, and about halfway through the chapter it seems like something is missing. Like it jumps. And makes no sense.

Our little gloomy demigod, Nico. Had gone through so much. So when I found out him and Will would have a book of their own, I was ecstatic at the thought of him having happiness! Finally!!!

INSTEAD IT STARTS OFF AS NOTHING BUT HURT AND PAIN!!!!

The way the story is told is amazing! I like the pov and how it eventually catches up to itself.
The amount of pain that Nico has been going through is really brought to light in this one. It hurts to listen to it for him. But the end of it is what really messed me up! I didn't think he could get rid of his demons/ trauma/ pain like that! In so happy, he finally gets to have a chance at happiness with his soggy ambrosia/ glow in the dark boyfriend!

WHY RICK WHY!?!?!? NICO! WILL! NO!!!!

Love how this story explores Nico’s “demons” and traumas as well as PTSD, the diversity of the LGBTQIA+ community and different perspectives on relationships and how to choose to love.

Spoiler Alert!!!

There is definitely Jason Grace trigger warnings all over this book, I loved the book but for me I will never truly get over Jason’s fate and forever will still be too soon for me when it comes to him. Nico has a lot of Jason memories and grief processing in this novel. Yes we all needed the grieving process with Jason and I’m glad Rick gave us that but it’s still extremely painful for me. (I am a 35 year old avid reader and I have not had this visceral of a reaction to a character death since I first read the 5th Harry Potter book the week it came out.)

This one has ALL the feels!!!

I would love to have seen this as a 5 book series *SPOILER* the fact the Nyx was so easily defeated was kind of underwhelming considering her position in Greek mythology. It could have massively evolved into a 5 part series if she were to escape to the mortal world. Nico and Will are a beautiful couple, however this book pushed the limits for what almost became a romance novel. When Percy and Annabeth it was more mission-focused rather than their relationship. Ofc I don’t mind it too much considering this is a book about them, but I felt it stole some of the story from the novel. Still a 5 star novel and I hope to see more in the future, especially Bob’s new story.

Great story considering it’s tamed to a single book

Didnt know what to really think of this one, as I just found another series i forgot to previously checkout. These characters were new to me yet I could easily fill in the gaps. Thos one I will definitely listen to over and over! Also, I can definitely appreciate the Fam friendly vibe in the book.!

Unexpectedly sweet, thoughtful, entertaining.

SPOILERS…
Nico was one of the first queer characters I encountered as a kid and now, as a queer teen, seeing him getting the true happy ending that I felt like he was deprived of for so long was the most amazing feeling. This book captured everything I loved about the original PJO and HOO series’s along with exploring the darker themes that surround Nico’s character. While Nico was important in all the previous books, I always wished we could get a deeper look at him and his character arc, so him having his own book was exactly what I wished for. My only one possible complaint was that the word “boyfriend” was severely overused but I didn’t really care that much as most of the time it was cute. Also BOB GOT TO SAY HELLO TO THE STARS 😭 I actually sobbed for the last 40 minutes of the book just because of Nico’s resolution and because of Bob seeing the stars. I was heartbroken after Bob got left behind but now he’s with the stars again and I am so unbelievably overjoyed! Although I am a little bitter that Damasen was left behind 😢 Overall, this book brought me so much joy, nostalgia, and relief. It wrapped up storylines that I never thought would get a resolution and I am genuinely thrilled to see Nico and Bob (two of my OG favorites) where they belong.

This is all I’ve been waiting for!!!

This book was one that I had desperately waited for, and Nico, who I truly felt personified my entire worldview when he was introduced (all the way to his being Gay, which thrilled me, a fellow Nico). To have a book from Nico's point of view was something I never thought I'd see.

Plot-wise, the book is decent (although at times, seemingly drawn out). All of the sarcasm so customary to Rick's writing is there, which I loved. New characters are introduced, and old characters make appearances. Sometimes the characters take on a personality that seems off. But the messages put forth by both Will and Nico in their grand journey? They were truly beautiful. That said, there are some retcons in this book one should be prepared for, and some...interesting (and at times disturbing) twists.

The last few chapters are surprising but well-received. I wish we had more Nico and Will journeys coming out, mainly because my little gay heart THRIVED with this book.

A truly beautiful book.

By far my favorite book in the Percy Jackson universe! I appreciated the LGBTQ representation (especially the inclusion of nonbinary characters, finally (even if nonhuman)) and the way the main characters' relationship was portrayed - good communication and sweet moments as well as the bumps every relationship has to work through. The fantasy/mythology aspects were fun and interesting. I found myself quite compelled by some of the characters in particular (I won't spoil who). Some of the book could be rather heavy, but for a story exploring the underworld and Tartarus, as well as a person's inner demons, it wasn't ever unenjoyable. I felt there were some really important metaphors. I also feel that someone who hasn't read all the other books in this universe could enjoy this book by itself, but that if you had read them all, it adds to the story.
Overall, a really enjoyable and meaningful novel. Would definitely reccomend!

My favorite in the Percy Jackson universe!

As somebody who’s read all the series so far over and over again, I was so excited about this book. I had been waiting for more info about Nico and Wills relationship for so long, and it’s finally come.

Loved it
