Story
A man. His ex-girlfriend's cat. A sadistic game show unlike anything in the universe: a dungeon crawl where survival depends on killing your prey in the most entertaining way possible. In a flash, every human-erected construction on Earth - from Buckingham Palace to the tiniest of sheds - collapses in a heap, sinking into the ground. The buildings and all the people inside have all been atomized and transformed into the dungeon: an 18-level labyrinth filled with traps, monsters, and loot.

At least, Jason tries to be heroic, but it's hard to be good when all your powers are evil. He’ll face off against cannibals, cultists, wizards, monsters...and that’s just on the first day. He’s going to need courage, he’s going to need wit, and he’s going to need some magic powers of his own. But first, he’s going to need pants.

After dying and being reborn into a world that's built like a video game, Jim has found himself stuck in a very old-world style new-player zone for low-level adventurers. Unfortunately, the zone fell out of use centuries ago, and no one told the monsters they were supposed to take it easy on the Noobs. Even worse, the only new player around is Jim. Kaiju: Battlefield Surgeon. Survival horror. One of the most brutal, most terrifying full-immersion games ever made. A place where fantasy characters such as elves and dwarves clash with technology, where giant monsters roam the hills, entrusted with protecting the gates of heaven from the demons who would tear it all down. A game where one plays the last of the battlefield surgeons: a healer tasked with keeping the behemoths alive at all costs. But on this server, they don't care about the game. They've come because of the game's most unique feature: full pain.

Accidentally murdered by a cleric in another universe during a botched resurrection, Arnold, a semi-pro gamer, wakes upon an altar to find himself incarnated into the overweight body of a farmer who could have been his fatter twin. He’s not the hero. He’s not the villain. He’s certainly not the chosen one who is there to save the world. He’s a clerical error. It could be a bad joke, but apparently, it happens so often that they have a standard procedure for returning you.

Jin Rou wanted to be a cultivator. A man powerful enough to defy the heavens. A master of martial arts. A lord of spiritual power. Unfortunately for him, he died, and now I’m stuck in his body. Arrogant Masters? Heavenly Tribulations? All that violence and bloodshed? Yeah, no thanks. I’m getting out of here. Farm life sounds pretty great. Tilling a field by hand is fun when you’ve got the strength of ten men—though maybe I shouldn’t have fed those Spirit Herbs to my pet rooster.

Let's face it... Most reviews are trash
I can't tell you how many idiotic reviewers have tricked me into listening to terrible books here. Now I'm NOT saying that most reviewers on audible are half-baked idiots who would be fascinated with a bug zapper. I'm NOT saying that if you've written a review on this site, there's a 90% chance you have brain damage. And I'm definitely NOT saying that most reviewers of sci-fi or fantasy never mentally progressed from their teen years. Oh and finally I'm 100% NOT saying that most reviewers are, in their personal lives, trash people with less potential than a microwaved hamster. My point: take this with a grain of salt, peasant.
Ok. Deep breath... DUNGEON CRAWLER CARL IS THE BEST AUDIO BOOK I'VE LISTENED TO IN YEARS!!!!
DCC is an incredible mix of humor, action, sci-fi, and fantasy that absolutely overflows with personality, thanks in no small part to the talented Jeff Hays. How tf does he do all those voices? I was certain there were at least 3 voice actors. Bra-freakin-vo, my man.
It was an outright pleasure to follow Carl and her royal majesty, Princess Donut, on their crawl (again). Their relationship development is believable and engaging. Never thought I'd say that about a man and his ex girlfriend's cat, but here we are. The magic system ai is fun as hell, enemies are generally described with stomach churning (and hilarious) detail, and MOST fights are seat-of-your-boxers-can't-go-to-sleep-until-I-know-what-happens crazy, excluding grind sessions. But those are fun too.
Not going to get into details because YOU should download and start listening right now with a fresh head and no expectations other than a great time. Don't read any other reviews. This is it. God is speaking to you through my fingers. That's right, this is God. I know about the weird sh*t you've been watching on p*rnhub and we'll talk about it when you get up here. Ok, gotta run. I'm meeting Satan for brunch and she is suuuuch a drama queen when I'm late.

Found this unbearable
I won't be continuing this series.
I just can't cheer for this protagonist anymore for a number of reasons.
The humour overstayed its welcome by the end of the first book, by this end of this one, it decided to move in and take over the living room. It's really hard to vibe with a book when you're spending most of your time shaking your head in dismay at the constant barrage of 'lolsorandom' humour that you hate.
Then it's the sheer next level self-deprication on display. Carl not only has no ego - like at all - but the butt of every joke seems to be him. Am i supposed to enjoy this? Do people find this admirable?
I'd probably find the former two more tolerable if Carl wasn't such a passenger in this story. Shit just keeps happening and he just reacts, never proactively. It's a deeply unsatisfying experience, I dunno how you expect me to believe x quadrillion people are loving it. Oh, it's because he's in boxers and a toe ring! HOW FUNNY, RIGHT?
Donut is still as annoying as ever too. When the book isn't trying to be funny, it's hitting you over the head with crappy melodrama that just doesn't land because of the aforementioned 'humour' clashing with the tone, and because I just don't care about the annoying cat.
Ugh. I should stop writing reviews the second I finish reading. I apparently get ranty.
I'll not be continuing this series.

If you liked book 1, this continues to deliver
From the start, this was a odd and unique dungeon crawler litRPG, what with a spurned jock and a prima donna cat as his partner. However, for all the hilarity that ensues as they delve from one floor to the next, facing unimaginable difficulties, they deftly overcome them with creative and oddball strategic maneuvers. The story elements are more than jocular exchanges, Matt Dinniman also manages to include many poignant situations and encounters as well. Even the few instances of low-brow jock humor comes off so unexpectedly that one cannot help breaking out with some loud chuckles so, fair warning, make sure you're not listening in church during your pastors sermon.
Jeff Hays' performance is fantastic throughout.

Love this series
Due to the synopsis and cover art, I kept skipping over this series even when it kept popping up in my recommended list 🙃. I am so glad I got bored and decided to give this series a go.
If you like a light, funny, fast-paced story with lots of action, you should definitely give this series a chance.

entertaining
I actually enjoyed the first 2 books much more than I thought. Has some good character development to offset some of the cheese comedy I normally avoid.
Jeff Hays does a fantastic job as usual. would love to hearAnnie in future books.

Fantastic - smart, sensible, exciting, funny
Smart, sensible characters in exciting, well written, inventive situations, with enough references to a deeper situation and a much bigger world to keep it from being “I hit this; then I hit that.”
And the audio recording is of superb quality - one of the best I’ve listened to - and only adds to the experience. I’d miss it if I tried actually reading a paper copy.
I don’t read this genre, but picked this up as I wanted something popcorny. This delivered so well, I’m buying every book in the series.
One of the best parts is the characters. They don’t do dumb things just to service a plot. And, better, they occasionally do things they don’t want because it is the SENSIBLE THING TO DO! Huzzah! They take advice! So good.
I also rarely laugh out loud from books. This series is generally amusing, and I get a number of real laughs from it.
Does all the humour work? No. But most does.
There’s also probably a bit too much “and then I got these 15 items - number 1 was …” and “Now when you add this this this and this, plus this, my stay was now 87!” But it’s not so excessive that it detracts from the plot, and for the most part is necessary.
New achievement!
You’ve finished a review.
Reward?
That depends. Did it make you want to go buy the book? If so, you’ve got a great read/listen ahead of you. That’s enough reward!

I normally don't like this particular genre but this is such a fun read and great performance. Plus I love Princess Donut.

Story

Story
Kaiju: Battlefield Surgeon. Survival horror. One of the most brutal, most terrifying full-immersion games ever made. A place where fantasy characters such as elves and dwarves clash with technology, where giant monsters roam the hills, entrusted with protecting the gates of heaven from the demons who would tear it all down. A game where one plays the last of the battlefield surgeons: a healer tasked with keeping the behemoths alive at all costs. But on this server, they don't care about the game. They've come because of the game's most unique feature: full pain.

Story
For over 30 years, Dominion of Blades has been the hottest online role-playing game in the world. But the game is too real for some, and after an epidemic of real-life fatalities, public use of the immersion technology has been banned. Jonah wakes to find himself in-game, level one, with no memory of how he arrived and no way to eject. With only two companions, trapped in a world that once hosted millions, Jonah must battle his way across a treacherous landscape, fighting virtual monsters, all too real pain, and a very human enemy.
