Charleston and the nation waited for an explosion of violence and hatred after the mass shooting at Mother Emanuel AME Church. After all, that had been the follow up to any other recent racial incidents in the U.S. Instead, the city and the nation and the world were stunned when the families of the victims publicly declared their forgiveness for the hate filled shooter.
