Tucked into Abraham's biography is the story of Hagar, a young Egyptian slave with whom Abraham had a son named Ishmael. Hagar stood out because she was wounded - not physically, but in ways that were as emotionally and spiritually painful as any injury to a body would be. Some wounds were provoked by her own bad behavior, but others were inflicted by those who considered themselves God's people.

Anne Graham Lotz, too, has been wounded by God's people. Some wounds have been deeper than others, some have come out of nowhere, and still others have been provoked by her own behavior, but all of the wounds have been deeply painful. They seemed to hurt even more when the wounders wrapped their behavior in a semblance of religion or piety.

As Hagar's story unfolds, you will discover that wounded people often become wounders themselves. While Anne identifies with the wounded, the unpleasant reality is that she also identifies with the wounders, because she has been one, too. I would have never thought about Hagar in this way. She is loved by God as all are loved by God. Truth hurts, but is so healing.

Best book I’ve ever read on healing from wounds inflicted by Christians. Anne has experienced it too and knows what she’s talking about. Don’t run from God because of what His people did - read this book and apply it instead - and you will move toward healing as I have.

God Cares About Each of His Created

Anne's writings hold my interest. She touches on real life experiences. She is gifted in sharing her heart as well of others challenges. God is made known & she encourages each reader to turn to Him for our answers. He waits patiently for us to come to Him; with a repentant heart for His forgiveness & eternal life. A great book!

Real. Honest. healing truth.

The author advocates for reconciliation without diminishing the impact of the hurts in our lives. She takes an honest look At hurt as a whole and shares vulnerably her own situations and challenges with with hurt

Conviction alert

I bought this book thinking that it would validate my feelings and thoughts, instead it challenged them. I hated parts of the book. What I hated, I needed to hear because those are the parts that needed changing in my life. I can only imagine the author’s journey in writing this and the pain that she went through to share her experiences so that I may learn.
