Publisher's summary

What has been missing from the daring tales of fairy tale heroes is quite simply some heft. In Burly Tales, Lambda Literary Award-winning editor Steve Berman has gathered a dozen stories of whimsy and romance that feature gay men with plenty of curves and fur.

Run away with us to enchanted woods, where the cubs and bears are not going to eat you (not without informed, enthusiastic consent), where no one will judge if you take up residence in a house with seven bearded men and only one bed, and where if you fall in love with a large, hairy man with a forbidding castle and a well-stocked library, he'll still be that way after you kiss him.

With stories of handsome princes trapped in towers or cursed to appear like actual bears, the plight of lonely giants in the clouds, and a trio looking to celebrate at the local gay bar only to face down a troll, the stories in this book will certainly enchant.

Very entertaining and enjoyable

I really enjoyed this entertaining set of alternate (and very burly) M/M fairytales. The tales each have some basis in or reference to many old standard fairytales, but they are very different indeed. They are definitely for the 18+ crowd, too, as they include profanity and sexual behavior. Come listen to some very different takes on Snow White, Rapunzel, Jack and the Beanstalk, Goldilocks and the three bears, the three little pigs, and more. Some are serious, some are sweet, some are ribald, and some are laugh-out-loud funny. My personal favorites were The Three Little Prigs, Lesson Learned, and El Muerto's Godson.

The narration was pretty good overall (with the exception of a burp in the middle of one story that was not edited out and a couple repeated sentences). The narrators seemed well chosen to match their voices with the content and tone of the individual stories. Excellent delivery for the most part.

Big, Round, Hairy Bears in Favorite Fairytales!

When I first stumbled upon this gem, especially by the amazing cover and synopsis on fairytales with big, hairy, bears too? I just had to try it out! So glad that I did! Definitely one of my most favorite audiobooks I have listened to! Not only for my absolute love for fairytales, but packed with sexiness, hilarity, darkness, and sweetness that made this such a wonderful anthology to listen to! As other reviews have said before, there are about 2-3 lines that are repeated (not long at all), and the burp in one of the stories that I found hilarious honestly. Again, perfect 5 stars from me! Highly recommend giving this one a go!

Okay

So there were some technical/editing errors that I noticed while listening. Aside from those, this is an interesting take on classic fairy tales. The narration was good.

A COLLECTION OF M/M FRACTURED FAIRY TALES

Even though I couldn’t recognize some of the fairy tales, I enjoyed them. The ones I could recognize had a pleasant twist to them with HEAs all around. I recognized the Snow White, the Grimm’s tale about the hidden room and several others. It was a delight to hear these stories with their twists.

The narration and the voice changes were wonderful.

A great twist on popular fairytales !

The author did a great job at showing a different view to.modern fairytales. I absolutely loved listening to this and even found myself laughing out loud at times. There was a few small issues with the narrator but for the most part he did really well, especially with all the different voices. I absolutely love the way body image is portrayed in the story. Way too often you only see skinny, perfect white men/women. o loved the burliness and diversity. Definitely worth checking out!

Burly Tales

This is a nice collection of M/M fairytales. These stories are not your ordinary tales of beauty and love. They show the listener that love comes in many shapes and sizes. The men in these stories are not the vapid and skinny characters that we are used to. These characters have substance in not only personality but in body as well. It was nice to see the focus was on more than just the beauty of the characters. Strength and love find its way through many trials in these tales.
Although the narration is pretty good throughout the book there are a few repeated sentences and a burp in the middle of a story that was not edited out that pulls the listener out of the story.
