Great Read!

This book came to me highly recommended, so I'm surprised to see some of the reviews. Some of the story was predictable, but it was a still a great thriller. I rooted for Kit to see what I could see, which I think plays into understanding how naive she was. The narration is fantastic 👌.

Monsters aren’t just found in horror books

No red herrings here. But how the plot evolved was definitely worth listening to. Not as predictable as you might think

Confusing

The timeline was confusing. We had a good sense for what the hawk was doing. However, it was difficult to determine that these were primarily past events. The information was presented as though it was happening concurrent with the story.

Disappointingly tame and predictable

For a book marketed as a thriller, Breakneck Bay lacks any edge-of-your-seat moments and drags throughout. I should have DNF’d it after the slow start, but held out hope that it would improve —but it never quite delivers. The seedy setting fails to build suspense, weighed down instead by an unbelievable premise and unlikable characters (especially the FLC). The plot is flat and predictable, and the main characters lack depth and chemistry. What could have been a gritty psychological suspense novel falls short. Do not recommend.
