Publisher's summary

An orphaned boy fights to get into an elite military academy to find his sister. He expected simulated combat against other child soldiers—not a life-and-death battle against the real monsters of war.

After the telepath war destroys his home world and the enemy fleet abducts his sister, Cam joins the Dominion military to fight to get her back. He's not the best or the brightest, just a street kid with a knack for survival and armed with grit. But it won't be enough, not when he discovers a terrible monster preying within the Academy—and a conspiracy that will pit him against the greatest enemy of all.

Big stakes, complex emotions, kid in trouble

Narrator André Santana does a masterful job with a complex narrative that’s an ever-changing circus of the thoughts, memories, dreams, emotions, out-loud voices, hallucinations, instincts, and sometimes violent actions and reactions of a ten-year-old kid forced to make choices most adults could never handle. It may be YA, but it’s dark and scary and a pretty wild ride.
