Publisher's summary

Award-winning, best-selling crossover author Lisa Wingate pens inspirational Southern fiction that tugs at the heartstrings. Blue Moon Bay takes Seattle architect Heather Hampton to quiet Moses Lake, Texas, where a promotion at her firm hinges on the sale of family farmland for a proposed industrial plant. Her plans hit a few snags thanks to her quirky family and a handsome banker opposing the land deal. It soon becomes clear that providence has other ideas for her future, and maybe this small town is the place where all her dreams could come true.

Like a bad Danielle Steele novel

To engage in this book, one would have to disengage their commonsense. The main character was inconsistent without adequate explanation. She is described as a very accurate architect but then erratic, demanding, and at times ridiculous. Like Danielle Steele novels, an angry self-isolated woman meets a guy she first doesn't like but later falls in love. This was predictable and cliche. I am returning this book and won't buy another in this series. I liked the first in the series but Blue Moon was a disappointment.

Blue Moon Bay by Lisa Wingate

Would you listen to Blue Moon Bay again? Why?

I would listen to Blue Moon Bay again because the characters were well developed and the narration excellent.

What did you like best about this story?

The plot, play on words and the setting.

What does Johanna Parker bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She is able to draw a picture of each character through by the reflection she has in her voice. She could make a character believeable or not by the tone of her voice. She added humor that might have been missed if read silently.

Real people, real life, real Love

Where does Blue Moon Bay rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

First or second

What did you like best about this story?

Lisa's words flow like a leaf on a spring stream, sometimes gentle other times fast. She personifies the excellent wordsmith. The solid plot, real characters with real problems keep the reader involved. I especially like the way she shares romance. Real raw emotions that makes the reader feel sweet and tender after reading it--not dirt and used as some do. Nor do you think these are paper people without substance, without true longs and desires.

Have you listened to any of Johanna Parker’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Great.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

suprising continuation of the Moses Lake Saga

loved it! Thought, I was surprised by the different story that erupted though a few characters from the first book were mentioned.

Another masterpiece, plain and simple!

There wasn’t anything I didn’t love about this story. The story itself was excellent - I could not put it down. The narration was equally superb - I love Johanna Parker. And Lisa Wingate, aside from being an outstanding wordsmith, has a marvelous sense of humor. DEFINITELY a very good read!

First 2/3 of the book was good.

After that, it got very “preachy”. It turned from a good mystery story into a sermon at every turn in the road. Narration got very melodramatic as well. Not what I was looking for.

Too long and religious

This was drawn out and too long. I kept thinking when will this end. Also, there was too many religious references that seemed to be manipulated into the story. I didn’t know this was inspirational when purchasing it.

Hard to push through this one.

So, I’ve managed to get 1/2 of the way through this book and I still haven’t met an appealing character. LW has a wonderful ability to redeem her characters, but this is a long time coming and none of the supporting cast are painted much better. The main character, Heather, is one of those people you avoid at all costs, demanding, shrill, unhappy about everything, a total workaholic, completely cut off from her family, her boyfriend, any friends at all save one. I am listening to this book on audio and the narrator’s interpretation may be part of the problem. The narrators voice, when she uses the southern drawl, makes the characters sound hokey and dull witted. With the other characters she has a tendency to emphasize every other syllable, which is distracting, so you begin to focus on her strange innunciation rather than the story. Her interpretation of Heather makes her so awful you cringe in embarrassment when she blurts out her caustic comments. If this had been my first Lisa Wingate book it would probably also be my last. She spends so much time talking about the past you really feel it’s 60% of the book, but it does nothing to warm you to the characters. At least not yet.
So I persevered and finished the book because it’s Lisa Wingate! But I never connected with any of her characters save Aunt Ruth and the “Unks”. Aunt Ruth’s voice was done beautifully and her character had depth and strength and everything she said was insightful coming from years of measured, mature self sacrifice. Her story was compelling and left me wanting more. Heather’s character finally clued in on her self isolating ways, but the inconsistencies of her behavior throughout the book and lack of warmth were off setting and her mother was so cold and hostile and indifferent to her own daughter it was difficult to ever develop any sympathy or understanding of her character.
It’s always interesting to find yourself in the minority when rating a story. Why have so many others enjoyed this book, which I found disjointed in character development, the plot and the telling of it, with uncharismatic characters that never really delivered and a narration that continually jarred and irritated??? 🤷🏻‍♀️

The author has a way with words that it both deep and humorous. I laughed out loud many times and felt the tug on my heart also.

Great book

I enjoyed this book. It was interesting through out the entire story leaving you questioning everything until she ties it all together in the end.
