Publisher's Summary

The fifth novel in the number one New York Times best-selling series

When Branson, Missouri, is hit with a death wave - four unsolved murders - it doesn't take an expert to realize that all is not well. But luckily for the locals, Anita Blake is an expert in the kinds of preternatural goings-on that have everyone spooked. And she's got an "in" with the creature that can make sense of the slayings - the sexy master vampire known as Jean-Claude.

Critic Reviews

"When Anita Blake's boss at Animators, Inc., informs her that she's expected to raise 300-year-old zombies from a field of jumbled bones just to settle a land dispute, she's understandably annoyed. But as soon as she arrives in Branson, Missouri, to do the deed, the job gets more interesting. A psychotic sword-wielding vampire starts committing multiple murders in the area, and Anita must call on Jean-Claude, her powerful fanged suitor, for help. As always, Anita prevails over the undead, keeping Jean-Claude at arm's length, clearing the cemetery land of an ancient enchantment, and nailing the vampiric killer in one fell swoop." Listened to this one for the fourth or fifth time

When it comes to the "Anita Blake-Vampire Hunter" series of books by Laurell K. Hamilton, follow this simple rule: THE FIRST NINE BOOKS ARE PURE GOLD IN BOTH NARRATION AND STORY. ALL THE REST ARE ABSOLUTE GARBAGE, FILLED WITH VERY POORLY WRITTEN PORNOGRAPHY AND LOTS OF IT. ANITA BECOMES A WHORE BASICALLY , NEEDING TO HAVE SEX WITH MANY MEN, MANY TIMES PER DAY.
Laurell K. Hamilton completely destroys a great cast of characters, by using her own life sexual experimentations as a template for all the books after 9 or 10.

I AM THE DUMB A_ _ WHO PURCHASED THE REST OF THE BOOKS TO SEE IF THEY WOULD GET BETTER.....................THEY DON'T.

Serious threat next door

To me, this story is when the series becomes more than rollicking good fun. It’s way more seriously dangerous and the innocent lives lost have more impact.
Anita goes out of town with trainee Larry Kirkland to see if she, or they, can raise an entire burial ground partially dug up by bulldozers. Anita is acknowledged as the only one with the strength and talent to do the job. More than just being an Animator, she’s learning what it means to be a Necromancer.
Dolf and the R.P.I.T. Crew are understaffed and tied up in St Louis, so they call on Anita to respond to local police at a murder site. Anita and Larry are caught up in a supernatural serial murder that shakes them both. Anita demands Jean-Claude’s help in reaching out to the local Master of the City to request her help in tracking down their killer. It takes everything Anita has and is to escape the Master and her crew, who turn out to be the greatest threat of all. Wowza. Years later, this one still sticks with me.
This audiobook has Excellent production and narration.

My favorite Anita Blake so far!

LOTS of action and edge of your seat suspense. I loved Anita in this one, and her sidekick too. The love interests in the storyline have good spark. The narration was excellent with all characters, with the exception of Jean Claude. His voice seemed a bit too high and his accent was off. 4 1/2 stars for story and narration.

Good, not great

Enjoyed this book, but not the brilliance of the first several books. The very ending is redeeming.

Blame the rating on Audible

Any additional comments?

First let me say, I loved this book and this narrator. Unfortunately I HATE the narrator they replaced Kimberly Alexis with in the more recent releases. Audible in it's infinite wisdom will not set up a way for me to get those books out of my "recommendations based on previous ratings". Because I rated the early books so highly they feel that they HAVE to recommend the later books in the series based on those ratings. I've emailed Audible asking for a fix for this and got no response. At this point I don't think there is one book in my recommendations that I haven't already read/purchased someplace else or that I cannot stand the new narrators. So in order to get some new recommendations had to go back and trash a whole bunch of books that I love. This truly sucks and is something I did NOT want to do. I'm blaming this on Audible.

nice

I thought it was pretty good, I really enjoyed the heated chapter between Anita and Jean-Claude and when is Jean-Claude actually going to Lind Anita a hand in a fight, she always end up saving his ass, and why does he act so weak when it's turning out that he's a lot older than what he lets on
