Publisher's summary

Here, ladies and gentlemen, you have "the kitchen from hell." This is a sordid, hilarious tale of what goes on behind the scenes in the kitchen of a hotel restaurant. After reading this story, you might never again eat in another hotel restaurant, or any restaurant for that matter. Unfortunately, this story was based on the truth!

Quick entertaining listen

This is a very short story regarding the staff in a 1958 hotel in Alabama. The story is well written to capture the audience’s attention and keep them engaged. The characters are interesting and well described. Overall I enjoyed the story and the narrator did a great job. I do not believe that I’ll look at salad or a buffet without thinking about this story. I received a free copy of the audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Unpleasant acts by unpleasant people

Unlike other stories from this author, this was quite an unlikable cast of characters. There really were no 'good guys' which, although well-written, made it a bit of a sour read. Sorry, but I have to recommend his other works over this one.

Unrelated but distracting: the story was heavy-handed on various differences and handicaps. In the first 10 minutes there's an alcoholic, someone cross-eyed, 1 short leg, and a prosthetic arm.

On the other hand, the narration was great.

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

Extra condiments in the salad...gross...

A pretty good little short. I am still waiting for John to write something with some real juice to it. This one was fine, but nothing really happened and the question at the end drove me crazy a little bit. I was a chef for 10 years and would never allow anything near this kind of thing ever, ever happen anywhere I worked. And if I was the one who found "it" in my salad, I would have went ballistic. Anybody who wouldn't is nuts. I sure as hell wouldn't have kept eating. Nasty.

This will stick in my mind

This is a story I'm not going to be able to forget. The descriptions are vivid and the characters are remarkably life like for such a short story. I will never look at salad the same again!

The narration is well done with great accents for the character voices.

Quick, funny story that I know could happen!

John Issac Jones does a great job crafting short stories that most often have a fun twist at the end and/or leave you thinking. In the books description, it's stated that this story is based on the truth, and I have to say that I completely believe that! I don't want to give away any spoilers, but I'll just say that a very similar thing happened to the salad when I worked at a popular chain seafood restaurant back in the days. This story made me laugh, recounting my own memories, though the whole premise is crazy gross if you think about it! This is also why you have to always remain nice to people in the drive through. They're preparing you food. Trust me. Just be nice.

Tom Zainea did a good job narrating this short story. I've listen to his performances in the past and he always delivers.I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher for an honest review.

I'll skip my salad after listening to this book 😂

This short story takes place in Alabama in 1958. A situation unfolds at a hotel in the kitchen where the staff scurries around quickly to try to resolve a problem. John gives us such a vivid description of what's happening that its easy to envision the panic going on. The narration is well done and added a little humor to this story. I requested this book in exchange for my honest review. I recommend this and other book's by John for anyone looking for a entertaining short story.

Well, I will never look at a salad the same way again. This was funny, it was entertaining, and the characters are well written for such a short story. The story itself felt quite real and I really enjoyed it.

Laugh out loud funny!

I really enjoyed this short story. The title is so intriguing that it gave the whole story a quality of mystery to it. The suspense was delicious.

I cannot imagine someone not enjoying this story. The narrator did an excellent job.
