But caught between her warring parents, Lidan's world begins to unravel when another of her father's wives falls pregnant. Before she has time to consider the threat of a brother, a bloody swathe is cut through the heart of the clan and Lidan must fight, not only to prove her worth, but simply to survive.

Ranoth Olseta wants nothing more than to be a worthy successor to his father's throne. When his home is threatened by the aggressive Woaden Empire, Ran becomes his city's savior, but powers within him are revealed by the enemy and he is condemned to death. Fantastic story, setting and narration!

Well that wasn't the coming-of-age fantasy story I'm used to and, if I'm honest, a little bored of. That was tense, exciting, very well paced, action-packed and emotional. A very well rounded story following two similar yet completely different characters (that will make sense when you read/listen to it). The setting felt very real and full of history, without being bombarded by infodumps, thankfully. You picked bits up as you went along, with yet more being left to keep the intrigue alive right up until the end. Narration really worked for me and that can really enhance a story, as it does in this case. Great stuff! I cannot wait for the next book!
