Sometimes, Rory Rutherford smells like candy. Usually, he smells like freshly baked bread, but such is the life of a baker. It was no accident Rory was in the park that day, but he couldn’t have foreseen what would transpire by the fountain.
The breadcrumbs. The bird. The cat. Him.
The guy Rory watches running past every Friday. The one who makes his heart beat fast and his hands feel sweaty. Nicky Costa. The Nick Costa–half-owner of Costa’s Italian Restaurant–the one they own—the family. And he’s sticking Band-Aids on Rory’s arm one minute and showing up at his workplace the next.
Enjoy this sweet and sexy whirlwind romance set in the food industry and organized crime backdrops, but beware—do not listen on an empty stomach.

How the author manages to be so economical with her words and yet pack in so much detail, character development and storyline is beyond me, but I'm wildly appreciative.
The evolution of the storyline and the character progression was handled with a deft touch; supporting characters were well-rounded, the dialogue was natural, and the detail about baking and hospitality was spot-on. I don't know how much the author might have slaved over this book, but the storyline feels entirely naturally and effortless, so kudos for that. When the spice element is introduced it's entirely right, and the acceptance of it all puts me in mind of Schitt's Creek - it portrays a world that should be.
Jacob Morgan's voice acting on this is fantastic - the way he characterises the different characters is - well I'm running out of superlatives here. The way he voiced Rory, Nicky, Matty, Matthew, Max and Dante was wonderful - all entirely right for the characters, and of course Nonna made me smile. Dante and Max were my favourites, something about the way he voiced the older men sounded great.
The story finishes on an entirely satisfying point, and I would most definitely love to read more but I'm also content with this novella as a standalone. It's a novella so makes for a short listen, but has become one of my comfort listens. If I can't decide what I want to listen to, I just dip back into this one because it's one I find very restful.
Now I'm really keen to read what else the author as to offer.
Get it, read it, definitely listen to it, love it. You're welcome.
Sweet delight from start to finish

It's a cute new adult romance set in food industry sprinkled with some very light mafia elements. But it's not dark at all! It's such a good palette cleanser and in the end it makes you feel fluffy and good!
This one is a gem of a novella. And on top of that it was just a 3 hour listen. Short, cute, beautiful storytelling. Highly recommend.
