Publisher's Summary

Picked up by a larger publisher: as a consequence; the retitled, second, and final edition of the cult hit, Spent Shell Casings.

"Going to war was a finite window to touch the vanquished barbaric world modern reality has so woefully blighted out."

Joining the Marines in 2002, David Rose signed up to go fight ... and to go die. On this grim path, rather than finding a violent death, he would find family, purpose, and a brotherhood amid the misfit world of the war fighter.

No Joy sees David recounting madcap tales of Muay Thai bouts in seedy garages, a bizarre stint as a street cop, being on the other side of the badge, becoming a veteran of the psych ward, and more. It's an irreverently told story that doesn't just tell one man's tale, but speaks to the necessary question: What really draws modern young men to war?

Great book, awful Narration

The author is an amazing contributor to one of my favorite veteran websites, oafnation. His story is unique yet I️t isn’t. It’s raw truth yet skewed perspective. We were 80s babies and the GWOT (global war on terror) made us. As a Marine Veteran I have walked in some of the author’s steps. Had strikingly similar experiences, thoughts and actions. My journey was very different though but I can attest that this is a real perspective from a person who served at the tip of the spear if you will during a challenging time for our country and military. If you’re a veteran or want to understand veterans, this book will either give you solace in the brethren or give you a glimpse of what you are trying to gain access to.
Now to the narration. Terrible. The amount of mispronounced military jargon is absolutely unacceptable. Also, the strange cadences to the story and emphasis on terms makes the author sound ignorant at times. I️t seems the narration was done without a consult with the author or a proof-listen. I️t really needs to be fixed.

Great narrator in Scott Sowers. Blew my head off. So realistic and gritty. I wasn't in the marine corps but this seems legit.
