Publisher's summary

The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass is a powerful story about a man who was born into slavery but secretly learned how to read and write, which at that time was punishable by death. Because of this fact, we're able to read about the journey Douglass went through in his life, enduring the cruelty and heartless actions of his slave masters before escaping to the North.

A Fascinating Story

The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass is the intriguing and eye-opening story of a black man, born into slavery prior to the Civil War. As Frederick’s story unfolds, he tells of the impossible obstacles he had to overcome (such as learning to read and write) and the appalling abuses and atrocities he witnessed from a young age.

Vernon does a fantastic job with the emotion in the read, making you feel as if you were listening to Frederick Douglass himself. You feel as if you have stepped back in time and are walking next to Douglass himself as he reflects on his life.

This book is great for those researching the era, as well as people who are interested in what a slave’s life was really like. Definitely a good read, and a firsthand glimpse into the sad history of slavery.

This book was required for my history class and I read half of it before listening to this audio. The narrator was so good and I felt like his voice was perfect for this book. Really enjoyed it a lot!

A strong rebuke

If you want to have a great understanding of Bible as it is to be applied, you need to read and study this book. The Bible are words in a book this writing put frame and context to how scripture is supposed to be known. Read, study and pray for God's mercy upon you; you hypocrite who call yourself to be a servant of god!!
