She might look like an angel...

The moment orphaned American heiress Titania "Tansy" Danforth arrives on English shores she cuts a swath through Sussex, enslaving hearts and stealing beaux. She knows she's destined for a spectacular titled marriage - but the only man who fascinates her couldn't be more infamous...or less interested.

But it takes a devil to know one...

A hardened veteran of war and inveterate rogue, Ian Eversea keeps women enthralled, his heart guarded and his options open: why should he succumb to the shackles of marriage when devastating good looks and Eversea charm make seduction so easy?

And Heaven has never been hotter!

When Ian is forced to call her on her game, he never dreams the unmasked Tansy - vulnerable, brave, achingly sensual - will tempt him beyond endurance. And fight as he will, this notorious bachelor who stood down enemies on a battlefield might finally surrender his heart...and be brought to his knees by love.

Contains mature themes.

A Miss for Me Too

I spent 90% of this novel NOT liking Ian Eversea and his treatment of Tansy, such that the last 10%, not matter how elegantly narrated by Justine Eyre or how skilled the prose, could not save this book for me. I doubt it will ever be reread despite the grand gesture at the end. 500 minutes is a long listen without enjoying it for more than the last 25 minutes at the end.

ooof

unfortunately, the story had a great character line up and wonderful dialogue, BUT. ...and its a big one- I caught myself being really put out with how the H treated the H. As historical romances go, we have to understand the era and how women are treated, but I just couldnt get behind this one.

Such a letdown

Narration was great. Justine Eyre has been a slow acquired taste for me as I really hated her voice in the past but with time and finding a good speed to listen to her with ( usually .95x) I've come to actually really love her.

Unfortunately, this was my least favorite in this series.  I was expecting more from Ian's story. This one fell flat on all levels,  including fun. Tansy ruined this one for me. I found her completely unlikable on all levels. She was a very manipulative young woman, always looking to manipulate with her "looks". She was the personification of everything I loathe in women. Ian lacked EVERYTHING that he had portrayed in previous mentions in the series. I would pass on this one as it really did nothing for the series.

Didn't finish

This is the first book of the series that I couldn't finish. Which is funny, because all of the back stories are interesting and should have added a lot to the - also interesting - main plot. But I did not connect with either main character, which is a first for me with Julie Anne Long. The main plot and the sub plots didn't resonate either, I'm sorry to say. The rest of the series is great!

Had to skipped through

I was disappointed with this book and tried to listen it through but eventually skipped through to the end. I love the previous ones and hope the following books does not have this trend. Way to superficial and I understand there are females like that, but not something I'll like in my novels.

Couldn't even finish

I read historical fiction for sweet, hot romance, strong women, and heart- melting heroes. This book delivered none of these.
Tansy is a nightmare! Flirting and collecting hearts and attentions of all the former Eversea heroes who are "so in love" with their wives - ugh! I feel duped! Far too immature to deserve her own novel. And Ian - disgusting! Sleeping with two women on his way to falling in love with Tansy. Not in my fantasy!
JAL did me wrong!!

Rewrite possible?

So disappointed! I expected such a better story and adventure with Ian. This story fell flat and really should have been the swan song. Maybe a redo for Julie Ann Long on this book might be good.
