Good suspense thriller from beginning to the end.

What made the experience of listening to Because She Loves Me the most enjoyable?

I couldn't quit listening because I wanted to know what came next. Good character development and writing. Totally enjoyed it, and was surprised by the ending.

What other book might you compare Because She Loves Me to and why?

Gone girl by Gillian Flynn. Because it was a twisty suspense about love gone bad that had you going right up to the end. The ending was unexpected. Some of the characters you loved and hated, then your perception of them later changed. People can be creepy and real psychotic. It also reminded me a little of Stephen King.

Which scene was your favorite?

Can't really say one scene/part stood out. I liked the whole book.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. But it took me two days not one. I alternately read the book, and listened to the audible version when I couldn't sit and read.

Any additional comments?

New author for me. I really enjoyed it. He is a good writer with good character development, and a good story. I like a good suspense thriller, and I look forward to reading/listening to more of his books. The author has a great imagination and had written the book on similar things that happened to him.

Slow Pace, Annoying Female Characters

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I can't say, really. I didn't finish the book, as it was going at such a slow pace and the writing was so mediocre. The narration of females was so jarring I had to grit my teeth to get though it. Not worth the credit.

What was most disappointing about Mark Edwards’s story?

The mediocre writing.

What didn’t you like about Napoleon Ryan’s performance?

He didn't narrate women well at all, he made them sound daft and pathetic.

What character would you cut from Because She Loves Me?

All of them.

Any additional comments?

Not worth the credit.

One of The Most Boring Books Ever!

Nothing happens in this book! Nothing. The story rambles on & on with some twists & turns that end up at dead ends over & over again. Absolutely boring and a waste of money & time. Do not waste your credit or your money.

Entertaining Distraction

Despite the somewhat clichéd storyline, I really enjoyed this book!

There is only so much you can do with a psycho-girlfriend plot, and I can’t say that this author came up with any new twists in the genre, but nevertheless I was kept guessing.

It was a satisfying and entertaining distraction.

Adolescent prose

This author needs to take a creative writing course. I can't judge the story as I couldn't get beyond the first 90 pedestrian minutes.

Entertaining.!

I couldn't stop listening, even thou I wanted too. The story was good but the constant self talk and analyzing by the main character was exhausting! I needed to take breaks because the constant internal dialog from the main character was way too much. Overall it was a good story and did not see the end coming. Will download another from this author. Narration was on point👌

NOT A BAD THRILLER

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

yes, I think so. It was one of those borderline books that I'm not too sure about. Did I love it or hate it ? At times I felt both emotions. It was really over the top and very far fetched, but the entertainment value was definitely there and finally, as far as I was concerned, this won out in the end.

Have you listened to any of Napoleon Ryan’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Not bad, he was very good with male voices, but not so much with the female ones; he made them all sound a bit daffy, but, then, I guess, they all sort of were.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Any additional comments?

I enjoyed the twists and turns and didn't see the final denouement coming. It arrived out of the blue, as if it came to the writer at the last minute and he decided to change the ending. There were no clues in the book up until then that this coup de grâce was likely to occur, and personally I felt it didn't fit.

A bit predictable with a twist

This author's stories seem to involve the same man, same personality, always betrayed by s woman. Still good yarns. This one was predictable....until the twist.

Captivated for the first 90% and then lost me

I loved this book until the last 10 percent. This story had a constant rhythm and build and then in the final chapters it took a series of wrong turns that just didn't fit. Very disappointed and I do not recommend.

Engrossing story with well drawn characters!

Any additional comments?

This was very well written and beautifully narrated. Its a tale with many layers and a few twists. There wasn't a wasted sentence here, so I never wanted to put it down. Some reviewers said it was great until the last couple of chapters, which they didn't like. I was very happy (though surprised) by how it turned out. It was all plausible and perfectly satisfying.

I will do anything for love

I am quite surprised how much I enjoyed this story as I expected it to be a fairly standard slasher type thriller. The strong point for me was the fact that Andrew is such a likeable and sympathetic character. The fact he is so ordinary and beset with tremendous bad luck makes his romance with the charismatic and frenetic Charlie incredibly poignant. I also though the fact he clung on to hope despite all the warning signals was very true to life. The plot was tight and pacey and this was one of those books where I kept looking for excuses so I could carry on listening. On top of this Napoleon Ryan is one of the best narrators I have listened to. At one point I actually thought a woman was reading one of the female characters. I recommend this if you are looking for a thrilling story with a very human and vulnerable touch.

Gripping (for the most part)

Would you recommend Because She Loves Me to your friends? Why or why not?

I'd tell them that the first 90% of the story was very gripping. The menace of a disturbed mind was very well described and made this the audio version of a page turner. The denouement was less than satisfactory, though. It's difficult to explain why without spoiling the plot, but in my opinion the author would have done better to have avoided the "twist" and just gone with what appeared to be the obvious.

What about Napoleon Ryan’s performance did you like?

Very good regional accents and male/female portrayal.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

In a way I'm glad I didn't listen all in one sitting because if I had done so I would feel that 10+hrs had been a bit of a waste, given my disappointment with the ending. As it is, I had roughly 9 separate hours of satisfied listening when I was gripped by the plot, followed by a final disappointing hour.

Enthralling with a surprise ending.

Would you consider the audio edition of Because She Loves Me to be better than the print version?

I don't know.

What did you like best about this story?

The characters were well described so you could really picture them. It was easy to emphathise with the main character. The book is written in a relaxed and contemporary style which makes it easy to relate to.

Did Napoleon Ryan do a good job differentiating each of the characters? How?

Yes very good except for one. I didnt feel that Charlie's voice at all fitted her description. I know she was northern so there should be an accent but she just didnt sound sexy, attractive or even very intelligent.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I got angry with Andrew for not being more assertive. I also felt very sad for him as he had a lot of back luck in his life.

Any additional comments?

I found myself really looking forward to finding out what happened next and didn't find it at all predictable. A very entertaining read which kept me engrossed from the start,

Because she loves me - terrible, narration even worse

Because she loves me - terrible, narration even worse
I only listened to this book as far as chapter 9, I couldn't stand to listen to that boring voice any longer & narrators take in female voice Charlie's was even worst.
This must be the worst book I have ever listened to & I would have returned it, but as I was swayed by reviews I didn't want another listener thinking all reviews were good.

A few disappointing things.

I am a bit disappointed with this one, after thoroughly enjoying Here to Stay and The Magpies I was excited to begin the next novel I had purchased from Mark Edwards, but I found it no where near as good as the previous. Firstly the sex scenes and smutty sex talk I found a bit unnecessary, it sounds like a sexually frustrated young male talking, a bit tacky, not to sound like a prude, just a little over the top I think. I found it embarrassing when I had this audiobook playing out loud at home I would have to run to grab remote to turn volume down.

Second issue was I started to dislike the main character, his constant inner dialogue and failure to act like a rational person became tedious. I dislike pathetic characters and found some in this book to be just that.

Overall I don’t think this was on the same level as the others I have read. Only plus was the reader I found excellent, I liked his take on female voices and thought he did well with them. He does have a gentle voice which I found soothing reading whilst going to sleep.
