When private detective Agatha Raisin comes across a severed leg in a roadside hedge, it looks like she is about to become involved in a particularly gruesome murder. Looks, however, can be deceiving, as Agatha discovers when she is employed to investigate a case of industrial espionage at a factory where nothing is quite what it seems.

The factory mystery soon turns to murder and a bad-tempered donkey turns Agatha into a national celebrity, before bringing her ridicule and shame. To add to her woes, Agatha finds herself grappling with growing feelings for her friend and occasional lover, Sir Charles Fraith. Then, as a possible solution to the factory murder unfolds, her own life is thrown into deadly peril. Will Agatha get her man at last? Or will the killer get her first?

This is a reread. A much better result than the first time around. Finding a leg, which later proved to be fake, along the side of the road, leads Agatha to a smuggling ring and a donkey who befriends her. When the donkey is accused of being the instrument of death to a woman, Agatha takes up a crusade to save the wrongly accused animal. High jinks and disaster follow in Agatha's wake when Roy Silver comes to help. Charles has his hands full with a new engagement and James is away, so Aggie feels somewhat alone. I enjoyed this read for better than I did the first time I listened to it. The best thing about this book was having Penelope Keith back as narrator.

Agatha always has something up her sleeve. You never know who has committed the murder until the end which is wonderful. Never a boring book from M. C. Beaton.

Love Aggie

Welcome back to Penelope Keith! She makes this story come alive and all of her characters have a unique voice and intonation. The story is fresh and centers around proving the innocence of WizzWazz who has a range of personality similar to our Agatha. The plot is good and makes sense. I plan on keeping this book and reading it again any time I am in the doldrums and need a pick-me-up.

I have been reading this series off and on for years. So, I found this to be like checking in on an old friend who is still up to her same antics. What made this really enjoyable is that narrator Penelope Keith is back.

Same Old Aggie
