Publisher's Summary

Arranging a season for an unruly young lady whose habit is to enter drawing rooms by sliding down banisters presents a challenge at best - especially since the hoydenish Mira has a sister of incomparable grace and beauty.

Mira isn’t at all daunted by the local society and its ridiculous marriage mart. Her heart belongs to Lord Charles, who has been the object of her dreams ever since she was a child. But alas, Charles has eyes only for her ever-perfect sister, Drusilla.

Along the sidelines, the Marquess of Grantley enjoys Mira’s jealous antics - although pushing her sister into the fountains has practically ruined her social cachet. It is up to him to restore her to respectability and make her an eligible bride once again. When he succeeds, however, the lovelorn marquess will begin to wish he had left well enough alone.

Predictable but loved it

I have loved all of Marion Chesney's novels. There are characters you root for and others you despise. I like that they are well developed and always a good happy ending. Some times you just need that.

“Cozy” romance

A “cozy” romance in the style of cozy mysteries. Sweet, all loose ends wrapped up, a few twists and turns and a little drama but no angst, sex, or swearing. I like all those things in the right novel, but this was quite enjoyable for its genre.

Enjoyable, lighthearted historical romance.

Where does The Dreadful Debutante rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Dreadful Debutante was a light read. The characters were interesting and the dialogue was fun to listen to. A nice audio book to listen to at the end of the day. Nothing heavy or too dramatic or vulgar.

Have you listened to any of Lindy Nettleton’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Lindy Nettleton does a great job narrating, as always.

Sparkling dissertation on love.

Two very different formulas for compatibility in love. Comfort as much as driving force for one as passion leading to frequent conflict for the other. My favorite moments are when minor characters rise to great deeds beyond their ordinary scope. It’s a wonderful rich book considering its formula as a ‘regency romance’. I savor the detail when listening to a great performance by the narrator. Thank you!

Lighthearted Shallow Historical Romance

Well... Even though it was shallow and superficial this one held my interest. The author has an extensive vocabulary, which I enjoyed. I would’ve liked to know the age difference between the main characters. It’s funny how historical romances seem to highlight the age of the female while allowing the males to be whatever age the readers imagine.

In this case, the girl was 18 and very childish while the male was a widower who didn’t seem to care for his wife that died in child birth. The late wife and child were never mentioned after he made this claim. I know conflict is important, but at times his actions contradicted one another, which was silly since he supposedly had a lot more life experience than her. From the description and comparison, I imagined him to be in his twenties, then his actions made me believe he was in his thirties or forties, but then he acted like a teenager, which made me revert back to him being in twenties again.

I want ages when I read these books... If I had a photo I wouldn’t need description, but these are books and character details are important.

Loved it.

one of the best books by this author so far. It's silly and cute. The main characters are funny and spirited, they actually remind me of a married couple I know who mildly quarrel constantly and love each other dearly.
