Publisher's summary

When a cantankerous old woman dies at her home in the sleepy, picturesque village of Bamburgh, DCI Ryan doesn’t think much of it—except, that is, for the small matter of it having been his wife who happened to find her body. Then another body turns up amongst the sand dunes at the base of the mighty castle fortress, and he decides it can’t be a coincidence....

Meanwhile, after a recent revelation about her sister, DC Melanie Yates’ quest to avenge her death is becoming an obsession—much to the concern of those around her. With a new DCS to contend with and hundreds of cold case files to sift through, the chances of uncovering a dormant killer seem unlikely. But as Melanie delves deeper into the secrets of the past to uncover the truth, she soon realises it lies much closer to home....

Murder and mystery are peppered with romance and humour in this fast-paced crime whodunnit, set amidst the spectacular Northumbrian landscape.

Bamburgh

I waited so long for the audiobook, but boy was it worth the wait! The more DCI Ryan books I read, the more addicted I get! Love the characters and the author has such a special way of bringing in the emotions and always a special ending. Truly hope this series never end.

Wonderful series and narration..

Forget all the 1, 2 and 3 star reviews. This book was every bit as good as the other 18 books in this series I've read. I absolutely love Ryan and his wife Anna, and Ryan's team. He's not only a brilliant detective but his feelings for his team runs so deep they might as well be blood relatives.

This book was about two murders but the one that was most concentrated on was the fifteen year old murder of Melanie's twin sister, Gemma, and Mel's secrets and lies when she found out who the killer was while planning of killing him.

No romance and no swearing.

As for the narration: If Jonathan Keeble was ever taken away as the narrator of this series I would definitely stop listening to the stories. Jonathan Keeble is definitely Maxwell Finley-Ryan and Frank Phillips.

The Best in the series

I have so enjoyed this entire series but this book is the best. The dynamic between Ryan and Phillips is the best I laughed until tears came. I hope there are many more books to come. I love the narration.

Another great DCI RYAN

I just knew when I started listening to Bamburgh it was going to be another offering by LJ Ross. I was right. From the beginning to the end, it was most satisfying. And with the narrator, it was perfect. I was sorry it was over. Can’t wait for the next one

Good suspense

I really like this series, but I can't help thinking that Ryan and company are unlucky. It seems they're prone to finding murderers too close to home.

Excellent!

Hard to believe this is the 19th book in the DCI Ryan series. And each is fantastic!

This book is full of intensity. We know who the bad guy is right up front. Poor Melanie’s twin sister is abducted and murdered. Her comments to her abductor, although she thinks at the time he’s a savior, broke my heart.

We see a different side of Melanie and Ryan’s team all play a part in bringing her sister’s murderer and solve a few others in this great book. I must admit that the resolution of the other murders seemed rushed.

All in all, I love these characters and Louise’s stories. The narration was well worth waiting for.

One of the Best of the Series

I have many books by this author. This has proven to be one of the best, in my opinion: good story, good characters, excellently paced and the winning narration of Jonathan Keeble.

a bit disappointing

For me it seamed as if the story line was more about tying up the loose ends of the previous book, more than the plot itself. I don't know if Lj rushed the book,or is getting board with these characters. However, I am still looking forward to the next book.

Pretty silly, not much Ryan

I thought this was one of the weakest books in the series. Not much Ryan, lots about peripheral and much less charismatic characters. Plot thin and nor very believable. Very disappointed.
