good base story builds to a great climax

story was well written and narrated expertly. parts are definitely disgusting so not for the easily upset or those with a weak stomach. the very end was sort of a surprise for me but was great! would recommend to anyone that likes Jon's stories.

Took too long to get morbid

I have read several books from Jon Athan. Unfortunately, this is my least favorite. It was a great concept, and I can relate as I was a big person before, however it took a lot of chapters to get to the morbid parts of the book. I am used to getting right into it. Once it was morbid it was morbid! I still love Athan but it was not a little slow for my taste.

The Was awesome, gruesome, read Cindy overweight and basically hates everyone Who is thinner than her. Shes' pretty narcissistic and i really didn't like her, although, I know that we're, not supposed to she take a flesh-eating diet pill

Good story but couldn’t stand the main character.

That was probably the point of the story but she was insufferable from the beginning.

Narration from Miss Cora is wonderful

Fantastic author, imaginative narrator, leaves you wanting more. Great read and very impressive. Loved it.

I really enjoyed this book

Looking at the cover and title of the book, you wouldn’t predict what the book is really about. I totally got Tales From the Crypt vibes from this book, in a totally awesome way. I related to this book particularly because at one point in my life I got up to 286 pounds, and I could really relate to how shitty it felt and what I was willing to do to lose it. Today I am 140 lbs and feel great. Although I don’t share the woe is me and super jealous characteristics of the protagonist. She is a very whiny and super vain person, but all of that really makes the book better in this case. If you ever read or listened to The Troop by Nick Cutter, this book gives those vibes. Like I kept thinking, if The Troop had a sequel where the magical diet pills were actually created, this is where it could pick up. Anyways, I definitely suggest giving the book a listen to! It was fun and one of my favs of Jon Atans so far. The narrator did a fantastic job! Don’t sleep on this one

Well, that had a little bit of gnarly on it.
The first part of the book I didn't care for. It just felt a bit unpolished, and I felt like I'd heard this story before. But it really kicked off after a bit and finished strong. Narration was ok and suited the main character.

I guess this overall style just doesn’t appeal to me

The story flowed well enough, but there were just some things that really stood out and or irritated me. Added to the fact that I just DON’T like when the bad guy wins in the end.

So as is true with SO many stories….why do characters seem deaf? They can’t here struggle in the other room. They can’t hear heavy footsteps. They also don’t have the inner awareness of checking to see if someone is behind them or if strangers I. Their apartment are doing untoward things.

Secondly, WHY is the police response time so slow in this book..even in really nice neighborhoods?

How is it that no one had noticed throughout all of Cynthia’s life that she was mentally ill? Psychotic: hearing and seeing things not there. Total body dysmorphia, paranoia?

Finally she kept saying (as an excuse to not go to the hospital), “what can they do except give me a feeding tube and examine me? We don’t even have a capsule sample.”
Well the hospital actually could have dialyzed her blood if it was believed that there was some systemic toxin along with antibiotics and other things, but she never even gave them a chance.

As I said, I guess this is just not my overall style of book of choice.

How’d you know what’s in my head? 😭🤣 I have body dysmorphia, so the way this fmc thinks sounds hella familiar. 😞 This was an interesting story. I enjoyed it. The narrator did an amazing job also! ♥️

Good narration meh story

it was ok, ending was dry for what we dealt with to get there.
