Shawn Scott has the perfect life—a rewarding career, a nice house, a loving wife with a healthy baby on the way. But after running into an old acquaintance—a strange man named Aiden Anderson—his life is thrown into a terrifying tailspin. Aiden knows Shawn’s darkest secrets. And he wants to punish Shawn for his history of ruthless bullying by playing a special "game".

Shawn must complete five challenges reflecting the bullying of their past, each one more disturbing than the last. If he fails or quits, his worst secrets will be revealed to the world—secrets with the power to ruin his life.

“The bullied becomes the bully...and the bully becomes the bullied.”

Jon Athan, the author of Am I Beautiful? and The Law of Retaliation, invites you to experience a brutal game of vengeance.

Rewritten and reedited from the ground up, the 2023 author’s enhanced edition of this book is an uncut, uncensored, and extended version of Jon Athan’s debut novel. It is the definitive The Harbinger of Vengeance experience.

Sean was a real dick in high school, and he grew up to be a semi-charming philandering jerk. Then the guy he bullied showed up, Still super pissed. And he’s got the goods on Sean.

This would have been a more fun story if it weren’t so humorless. As Sean hasn’t become a much nicer person, we don’t really care what happens to him. The guy he bullied is so creepy and obsessed with the resentments of his youth that our sympathy quickly wanes. The story unfolds so predictably for most of the book, I sped up the playback. I was curious to know the ending, but I don’t care about the characters. The ending was the ending I guessed in chapter 2 or 3 but prayed the author would opt for something more imaginative.

Jon Athan knows how to make your jaw clench throughout a story! This was a great, extreme tale of revenge.

Another great tale of revenge from Jon Athan

This one is brutal and relentless, exactly what you’d expect going in. The violence is front and center, but underneath it all there’s a clear sense of anger and revenge driving the story forward. It’s not an easy read, but if you’re used to extreme horror, it delivers what it promises and then some. 📚🖤

I’m diving into Jon Athans books after listening to Our Dead Girlfriend. This is the third book of his I’ve listened to so far. A big reason that I’m liking this author so much is the fact that even tho he’s an extreme horror writer, his books have substance and great storylines! He doesn’t write over the top gore just for the sake of being gory. He’s writing books with great character’s and an actual plot. This book is another example of the perfect balance of extreme horror and story telling. I not only recommend this book, but I recommend checking out this authors other books as well. I’ll be starting the next one by him now. Bon appetite!

Great author, great book!
