Sataou, still reeling from his losses and devastated by his future, continues on.

He is determined to bring the Shengu Sect to its knees and rid the area of their influence once and for all—both for his loved ones and all those being oppressed by their machinations.

The power within him grows in strength, however, and he finds himself needing to decide whether to stay true to who he is or to simply allow himself to change, becoming what the Void wishes for him to be. The world around him loses some color, but his abilities increase—and he will need every bit of help he can get in the fights to come.

Meanwhile, a new threat emerges—one that is unheard of in his corner of the world, but that is as dangerous and deadly as any he has faced thus far. When he is offered power beyond his wildest dreams, strength that would put his goals but the lifting of a finger away, will he take it—even if it may cost him everything he has left and more?

This was phenomenally written and was an extremely satisfying continuation of Sataou's "beginning".
I am alway so immersed in the world that Jay creates in his writing, and his this just another great example of that. Absolutely, loving how Brian Nishii is bringing the characters to life in this series. I can't wait to see how Sataou's journey continues and to see him face each new challenge ahead.

A great continuation of the journey.

He goes full murder hobo often with little or no reason. He does the annoying and stupid trope of not talking or answering or defending himself verbally when confronted. He just waits till they draw the wrong conclusions then kills them for it without trying to correct the misconceptions. The autor keeps making characters rush into things citing, he did not have time.. he is not being chased, there is no impending invasion or anything. They have all the time they need. He makes rash choices because of that such as taking an unknown skill saying he did not know what to do next. He was supposed to be getting stronger and working on his alchemy while taking targets of opportunity. Author seems to forget about his robes self cleaning, repair and temperature control enchantments as well. His elder mentor leaves the sect when he would be much better served disrupting it from within. Plot holes galore. I will not continue the series, not because of the storyline but because of the illogical plot holes.

Worse than the first
