An ancient organization lurks in the background while Minalan struggles for control, and the Emissary of the three Alka Alon High Kings has arrived to hold an investigation on the erratic human wizards and their rise to power. King Rard is growing suspicious of Mirkandar's real identity, and Korbal the Necromancer rises from his crypt to demand that the Spellmonger fulfill an oath he'd made. And, unsurprisingly, his teenage daughter is starting to question everything he's doing.

In the midst of the turmoil comes Moudrost, a Seamage and former member of the Brethren of the Sea, the magical order that alone communicates between the aquatic native inhabitants of Callidore and humanity. He bears a terrifying message: the appearance of the leviathan is no accident. It is coming to Farise, and it is coming for Minalan. It cannot be stopped by mortal men, not even wizards, and it is in no mood to negotiate. The only thing standing between the Vundel and the destruction of humanity now is Minalan the Spellmonger...and one very important Seamage!

I hate cliffhangers

Solid book was expecting a bit more in the first act. Second and Third act were pretty on par with a Spellmonger book. I am excited about the next book(read the title).

The Merwin armada was a complete disappointment utterly. Not the story telling but the fleet itself. Yes its a mundane army going up against Min's spell Marshals with a but of assistance from the past, but I feel as though the battle was SO one-sided that it was a bit of a let down. they could do nothing against the spellmonger for his first naval battle. I guess it's the people you surround yourself with.

The revival of Korbal was interesting and I look forward to what happens next with that story. I am a huge fan of necromancers, always have been and its actually what drew me to this series. so im glad to see his story not yet done.

The Vandul stand off was the peak of the book and makes the purchase worth it in my mind. didn't expect it to go down the way it did, particularly with the last time we heard from the reinforcements. Then for the book to end the way it did only means well get a book or two of supporting cast driven stories. I felt a lot of that in this book anyway so it makes sense. I truly look forward to seeing how the boys react to this slight and how they deal with their one time associate.

Excellent. However, it ends with a major cliffhanger.

If you don't like cliffhangers, wait until June for Theurge to come out and then binge them. Otherwise, it was amazing.

Story Telling

Nice to see the series shift more into more complete story telling. Feel like the book moved several underlying story lines forward in a satisfying manner. The usual objectification of woman by the author but a bit more story focused.

I swear

If we have to wait a whole year for the next book im grabbing my pitchfork.

Every timeline i go back to the spellmonger series im reminded how fun it is to read. All the nuances and inside jokes and subtle humor. Min makes me laugh when he’s being a wise ass. I love how much this series has grown. I become more and more impressed by every book. I can’t wait for the next one. I listened to this one too fast hahaha. The cliff hanger tho. Ooooof 😤

By far my favorite series. I’ve listened to book 1-15/17 3x through.
